DS Wifi difficulties-- Any thought on this year?

Last year the Wifi for Ds's was immense. Is there any consideration for this next year? I heard some people had to go down into the garage to get a decent, uncluttered signal. The pictochat was so overloaded it wasn't funny. (actually it was, I was saved from mass penii on my screen)

I wonder if Nintendo is going to work on any refinements of their wireless handling in such environments. I really think it's less than reasonable to adapt the environment to the device instead of the other way around, especially as it would involve setting up massive signal isolating barriers. You'd have to put them over walls, ceilings, floors, and then the room would be still too large so you'd have set up cubicles or something that were opaque to those frequencies.

With a bigger area, maybe it'll be better?

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.

More likely worse, with even bigger rooms and halls, more people will be in easy LOS and there will be fewer walls to run interference for any given average area.

There were so many ds's last year the wireless frequencies got saturated.

    It is pure awesome.

There will be 3 different handheld lounges spread across a large area this year that will hopefully cut down on interference.

There isn't a whole lot we can actually do for this, although the additional space this year will hopefully help out to some degree. Previous years had most handheld activity facing the open area of Meydenbauer, this year (as Red just noted) we'll have three different handheld lounges spread out around the center.

My thought would be a bit of cubicle "blockage*" Or Maybe some sort of meeting room we might be able to "borrow" for the DS tournaments to keep the wifi bleedover down. I remeber the garage thing from last year, maybe we could do that this year if the wifi gets out of hand for the tournaments.

Here's to hoping wifi doesn't get saturated as badly this year.

If needed the tournaments could be in the wsctc garage. That place is like a black hole for outside wireless signals. But since there are 3 areas spread across 2 floors and a large area inbetwen the 2, There wont be much of an issue like last year.

I was hoping to test out the area for massive DS activity at Sakuracon this year...

um. I guess my 2 friends and I were the only ones using it....

...success I guess? Heh...But seriously, With the new building about 4 times the size, I hope it's better.

Last year was bad if only because I couldn't download anything. Maybe having a "WiFi Lounge" wasn't the greatest idea, since it's probably more about density than just pure numbers (although the numbers were pretty bad as well).
With the new, larger space, the best thing the organizers can do is have multiple "WiFi Lounges" to distribute the load a bit and still have areas that people can find each other.
Then again, I'm not sure about the DS's local range, so it may not matter one way or another.

I'm going to bring a couple sacks of lead bricks to line one of the DS rooms with.

Well last year it was kind of mislabeled. It was never supposed to have internet. "Wireless gaming lounge" was what it was being called at pax.

This year they are "Hand held gaming lounges"

That would be kind of difficult since they arent in rooms :P

Maybe we'll just limit the amount of DS's through the door. Or tell everyone not to get on WiFi at a certain time.

Oh wait those are stupid ideas.
