Need help regarding microphones and such

Problem: I have a 3 acre yard and a dog that LOVES to bark at critters. Bad news, my neighbors are getting really upset about constant barking that I can't always hear.

I'm not a huge fan of shock collars or spray collars, so what I'd like to accomplish is putting a mic on my dogs collar, and a a speaker in my house so i can HEAR if he is barking and immediately call him in.

Anyone know what products to buy or where to look? I'm not even sure where to start

Don't think so. None of the baby monitor-type things are going to have sufficient range. Unless you have a bunch of critters in the yard your dog is likely at the fence-line barking at something interesting.

I think the problem here is you're leaving your dog out too long unattended.

But it's a bit pricey, of course, and you would have to outdoor proof it somehow. Think there are several devices. some might be cheaper or made for outdoors.

Have you considered, rather than a mic on the dog - an ambient mic in the backyard? You could mic the back of the property and turn the setup on when you let your doge outside...
