[Star Wars] is OUT! MARK YOUR SPOILERS OR WE WILL END YOU!
bothans are a mostly mute species, communicating only by death throes, and only then a few words at a time
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
Yeah, the prequels being all about Anakin was a mistake.
I do wonder if Lucas knew how big of a deal Darth Vader was in our entire human pop culture when he started working on the prequels.
Or why he switch light saber fights from epic, deliberate samurai duels to weird bad kung fu battles. Did he want to emulate crouching tiger, hidden dragon?
George Lucas knows Star Wars. He knows what made it tick and what gave it a soul, and his reason for the change in the nature of the lightsaber battles was actually a good one - but it clashes with the context of the original theme, the magic he knew how to make happen. He became a software engineer engineer instead of an artist and ran purely on logic, betraying many of the themes that made the first trilogy so great.
However, listening to him discuss his inspiration, I have the feeling that he knows his stuff. He just forgot important parts of it over time and through focusing on too many ambitions and effects and fixations.
I'll check this out, thank you

But I've always hated how in star wars movies how one person will speak basic / English and the other person just responds in their native tounge. That's not how it works.
In my experience, it's usually the reverse.
However, in the case of Han and Chewie, the reason for this would be that neither species is vocally equipped to produce intelligible versions of the phonemes necessary to communicate in the other's language. I imagine it's a case that could be made for other languages in the Star Wars Universe, if not all.

Did Vader forget everything about fighting after he fell in the lava?
In Empire he was pretty much humoring Luke until he got a glancing blow to his shoulder which pissed him right off.
Seriously, that fight is kinda hilarious when you see it as Darth just basically being the older kid in a fight holding Luke back by his head and watching him wail fruitlessly.
In Jedi you can accept that the Emperor was influencing the fight to make Luke turn to the Dark Side and was affecting the minds of both combatants.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

My Cantonese sucks, but I understand it pretty well. When I'm in Chinatown, this happens occasionally.
Yeah I did this all the time in Paris. Didn't want to ruin anyone's ears with my rusty French pronunciation but they were usually quite happy to talk to me in French and have me respond in English.
Yup, this often happens with my fiancee and I. I'm working on my french(her first language), so it's good to practice, and my comprehension is better than my speaking. So we'll try to have conversations in french, but if I need to get out ideas faster or I have more complicated things to say than what I know in french we'll end up speaking two different languages to each other and it's fine.

One neat tidbit was about Poe Dameron's origins being sort of made up on the spot and seeping into the comics, and not vice-versa. I'll spoil it just in case.
How much do you get to know [about character backstory] in advance, and how much say do you get? Or are you just focusing on the scenes and trying to be in the moment?
This is one of the most surreal things that happened. After shooting I was pontificating about his past, publicly, and I thought, I’m from Guatemala, and in New Hope at the end, at the medal ceremony, it was shot in Guatemala, in Tikal, where you see the pyramids as the ships are leaving. So I thought, how cool would it be if Poe was from Yavin, if he was a rebel fighter from Yavin? So I started saying that and, sure enough, I see a comic book come out where me talking about my character background suddenly is in panels for a comic book and it’s amazing. Lucasfilm got wind of what I was saying, and it got back to the creators of the comic book, and they thought, ‘Yeah, that’s a pretty cool idea! Why don’t we do that?’
Pretty neat. I think, of all the new characters, I'm looking forward to Poe the most. I've come to really like Isaac in the last year or so, and I'm excited to see how he handles a hotshot pilot.
Mark Hamill just gets it so perfectly always. Does everyone realize how lucky we are he was cast as Luke? The world is far better than any alternative actor getting that role.
Which in turn gives us current (and third) portrayal of The Trickster on the current Flash show.
I thought it was the other way round. He was Trickster first (back on the old live action Flash), and then got cast as The Joker on Batman The Animated Series.

Coming from someone whose fenced, Vader's fights are better in the OT. Granted that's a preference of choreography, but even in new material, he's terrifying. Vader is a sledgehammer.

In the Clone Wars series you definitely see Anakin's fighting style gradually become more solid and hard hitting than flashy. For example:
The moment where Anakin just drives his lightsaber into the chair and forces it forward is one of my favorite bits of character development. He's just so fucking done with Dooku and the entire Clone Wars mess.

His original live action Trickster did come first, but his current Trickster is very clearly influenced by his Joker.
Whereas his Joker isn't really as much like his first Trickster. His first Trickster is more like his JLU Trickster.

You know they never say it was the Empire that killed them. Can we really trust Mon Mothma?

Also 2 minutes into the documentary, you see Vader cut Obi Wan in half.
Satans..... hints.....
At some point in TFA, Leia will get snippy with Han.
And he will turn to her and say:
"Well excuuuuuuse me, General!"
Yeah, I'm serious
I'll check this out, thank you
Probably tired of hearing about it after nearly 40 years.

Lucas then muttered under his breath, "those fucking assholes."

Course he said that about the last batch so that is pretty much a spiteful curse

So I jokingly told my boss I would need some extra time off for this but now they're legit trying to get me to enter.
I've never gone more than 24 hours straight, there's no way I could win this.
