Buying Cameras on the Intertubes
AbsoluteZeroThe new film by Quentin KoopantinoRegistered Userregular
So. While scoping out the digital cameras at Best Buy last weekend I found one that I really, really liked. Panasonic DMC-LZ7S.
But like any good frugal shopper, I know that I can likely find that camera for a lower price elsewhere.
I've found it for as low as 175 bucks (after shipping) on the internet. Is there any reason I should pay the extra 25 dollars and just get it at Best Buy? Should I be worried about the camera getting fucked up in shipping? I don't really know a whole lot about cameras and how fragile they are, or aren't.
Also, Can anyone recommend a particular website for buying camera stuffs?
If $25 off is the best you can find, I would personally suggest going to Best Buy.
The camera could potentially get damaged in shipping, or simply arrive DOA or with other issues. Having purchased the camera at Best Buy means any of these can be rectified pretty quickly, and without having to pay for shipping again on your part.

Having purchased something locally where you can conveniently return or exchange it IS worth something. Whether or not that's worth $25 is your decision, really.

Bug 'em about matching an online price, see if they'll at least go halfway, or knock a bit off other stuff you might need for it, like memory. When I worked retail, I never turned down a chance to close such a sale.
If you do order online, then go to dpreview.com and check out their listing of dealers and prices. They generally only link reputable outfits.
Based on past experience, I recommend a camera with a viewfinder. You won't be able to see the LCD screen clearly in the sunshine, regardless of any manufacturer claims to the contrary.

You know... I do find it odd... that particular camera is 10 dollars cheaper (with free shipping, even) on BestBuy.com than it is in the actual store. I'm sure they'd at least match their own site's price.

Go in then and tell them that, I'm fairly sure they will have to match it.
Or otherwise order from BestBuy.com as I assume (I could be wrong on this so check) if you get it DOA then you should be able to return it at the store anyway.
