I've never tried anything but a square gate, I don't really understand why a circle gate would be worse.
What knob linked.
But also, the fact that you have a square really helps guide the stick to comfortable resting places. It gives it a real physicality. You can just shove that stick towards the corner and truck that a square gate will get you crouch blocking. Circular gate you have to worry about rolling too high and getting a stand block. It doesn't give the same tactile feedback. Square gate makes knowing where your stick is at really easy.

My issue with circle gates is that they feel too stiff and it's harder to "flick" them to get smooth qcf motions.
Also it's harder to find the corners if you want to go straight to down back or whatever; I have a hard time playing charge characters in particular on them.
Charge characters made zero sense to me until I got my first stick with a square gate, and then suddenly they seemed like the most logical things in the world.
I'm pretty sure it's "Learn to play Street Fighter, study ceaselessly, crush nubs in ranked, and then RISE UP and defeat that friend of yours who always beats you at fighting games that bastard"

Hmmm...Really having a hard time choosing between Ryu and Necalli.
I actually feel like their game plans are pretty similar.
I am really curious to see how Urien works in SFV.
Based on Bison and Vega they are pretty willing to shake up how a character works. And how Urien is in SF3 straight up wouldn't work with the mechanics of SFV.

Every time I run into a SF2 machine this happens. I'm like, "oh cool, SF2... well I can't do anything on this pos stick."
What do the other letters stand for?
Edit: oh, the missing dot. Derp.
loving these eps a whole lot
This local place always puts in circle gates, bat-tops, and shitty buttons in all their machines. Pretty much makes everything unplayable.
Pretty much this.
Local barcade has a mame machine with 3rd strike... nothing but circle gates.

This is a really good breakdown of why square gates are optimal, but at the end of the day it all comes down to individual comfort and familiarity

The horror of a bat-top circle gate is something you have to experience first-hand.
Preferably after a small child gets done using abusing it.

And it sucks I got a stupid cheap preorder from the game through Amazon but its on PS4 and fuck buying a new stick when I can use my old one on PC.
Going to cancel it and just get the game down the line on PC

This is perfect
It looks great on a poster or in a commercial, and it has this weird visceral feeling to it where it hits you right in the chest
But if you think about it for even a second it doesn't make sense?

I dunno most fighting games involve you getting knocked on your ass and standing back up a whole lot.

Funny you say that, because Capcom is doing a series of character introduction videos

And in this they say Ryu and Necalli are the two characters beginners should play
and then the shit stops when alex is out
its p. bad tho. i guess it has decent range...
I've always been attracted to characters with simple but effective gameplans.
Never really been a "tech monster" persay.
Which is funny cause I also really want to play Urien.

So I am suuuuuper curious.
