In the last 4 months or so my pc has started making odd noises. They are coming from the front half of the PC, and they sound like a fan powering up quite loudly. The noises come on for short intervals a few at a time. Even when there is no cd in my DVD drive the noises are still made.
The pc is only about 8 months old, could it be the fans? According to my motherboard probe the chassis and cpu fan are running fine but the power fan seems to be not working. The noises only occure when i am playing games.
maybe it's the power supply?
This happened with my old computer. You'll know when it starts randomly turning off.
NOT fun if you're doing any kind of school work/work... work (?)
As it happens only when you are playing games, it's probably your GPU fan. The power fan "not working" is probably only because the fan sensor is not plugged into the motherboard. If it really wasn't working, you'd know it by now.
In any case, if the sound has been worse than normal, it's probably just dust in the bearings of the GPU fan. Take your graphics card out and hit the fan with some compressed air.

Yeah, if that doesn't work you can put a drop of oil in the fan (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/0,1000000091,2135514,00.htm).
