Or.
Alternately.
Turn off your phone for a couple hours and watch the film.
I used to do it because it never even occurred to me it was a thing people could be bothered by
Now I still do it but I'll do it less often, dim screen, angle it so as not to be visible, etc
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here
Stuff suddenly appearing in my peripheral vision is extremely distracting for me.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...
Zen student: Master, what is the most important thing in the world?
Zen master: Attention.
Student: Is that all?
Master: Attention. Attention.
Student: Why is attention so important?
Master: Attention. Attention. Attention. Attention.
Student: What does that even mean?
Master: Attention means attention.
...Now I haven't studied Buddhism and I have no idea what this story means. But I'm going to say that it means:
put away the damn cell phone
everybody's talking constantly about other things and watching in the background waiting for explosions
No.

Also, it isn't obvious from that video, but is if you see another angle (which don't seem to end up on youtube) that that is a switchback corner on a pretty steep hill and the bike is basically sliding down it in the direction of the slope
You,know they run these things in front of every movie now that politely ask people to not talk or text during the film, right?
Most theaters get mad at the 1-2 people who think that their texts are more important than the enjoyment of the hundred other people in the room.

If it's not a big deal why is there an ad before evey movie saying dont use your phone
I dont think you are in a solid majority

This is Jake.

how would i know at that point
the most distracting offenders are intolerable though
some guy was doing it at cirque de soleil in vegas and i reached down and poked him and asked him to put it away and he did and the show was immediately much more pleasant for me
Yet you all want none of the distractions inherent to a social experience! you want a social experience on your own terms
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here
Social experience of everyone enjoying a movie, not social experience of people not watching the movie. That's like saying "crying babies are social man!"
pleasepaypreacher.net
they are not inherent
you have some crazy ideas mr y2j
Because the minority it bothers are the loudest complainers

unless you're texting the people you came with how is being on your phone being part of a shared experience with them, or the rest of the audience, some of whom find the fact that you're on the phone at all pretty shitty but might not even say anything because they don't want to talk over the movie or they have an aversion to conflict
I just want my freedomssssss

there are gummy worms in my pocket...
When I went to see mad max, one of the coolest parts was the break in action after the first intense rad non stop action sequence. The entire crowd exhaled. There was a moment of charged silence where the thought "holy shit" was rippling through the crowd.
That's cool social experience.
Are they always so... Warm
Look William Wallace was a theater talker, look what we did to him. You're ON NOTICE!
pleasepaypreacher.net
you want to swear loudly at a child's birthday party is what you want
I dont think so. I know a lot of people will say nothing in a theater to avoid conflict. I myself have stayed silent when I could have said something. Mostly because I didnt want to interrupt even more peoples watching experience.

my theater applauded at the beginning and the end of the new star wars. room was hyped.
i saw a midnight opening night showing of snakes on a plane and the whole crowd said the samuel l jackson line in union and there were people who cosplayed as flight attendants and snakes.
Those are trippy awesome social things.

Calm down, have a soda.
i can see how it sucks that the things that bother other people don't bother you and the things that bother you don't bother other people
you get hosed both ways
Obviously people might desire a different experience but I think there are some commonalities that nobody wants in their theatergoing experience, e.g. sobbing babies, people talking on phones, etc.
kill a ghost
the ramifications...
no, i just think that that is what everyone here is doing also
maybe i'm streaming terrible dj right now if i am its here
I despise when people say a funny line out loud after it's delivered in the movie
all of these things are also bad along with using a phone or eating too loudly or moving at all or thinking loudly
