Finding a local Chicagoan to help me get souvenirs

I have a friend from Chicago who no longer lives there, and would like to get them some keepsake items from local small businesses around where they grew up. Note these are not the kind of places that have gift shops that sell online. I've been trying to figure out how I can find a local who might be willing to assist with this. I'm willing to pay for the items, shipping and their time. Craigslist and City Data forums have been a bust so far. Any ideas on where I can find that kind of help?
