edited April 2016 in PAX East
Welcome to the 2016 Pre-PAX Dinner! This is a really fun dinner held on the eve of PAX East where you can meet and hangout with a bunch of other PAXers. If you're planning on attending other pre-PAX events this evening then this is a great place to come meet up and grab a good meal before heading out into the night!

Thursday, April 21st
4:15PM - 7PM,
@ The Merchant - Kitchen & Drinks

Dinner and lite apps will be served and there will be a cash bar. What food will be served at dinner?

There will be lite appetizers severed prior to dinner. However, your choice of plated meal includes:

•ALL NATURAL BURGER with Aged Cheddar, housemade bacon, black pepper aoli, brioche, fries

•SLOW ROASTED CHICKEN BREAST with Mashed potatoes, spinach, mustard jus

•CRISPY POTATO CAKE with Egg yolk, truffles, roasted mushrooms, mushroom jus

•STUFFED PEPPER with Wild mushroom and goat cheese stuffing, wild rice, pepper confit

Kids meal options (ages 3-12) - Please PM me so we can discuss options

This event is open to all ages, so all are welcome to attend. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Tickets https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2016-pre-pax-dinner-the-merchant-tickets-22495463537

The ticket price this year is $31.50 + Eventbrite fee, kids meal tickets (ages 3-12) are $18 + Eventbrite fee. I'm going through Eventbrite, this service has been used for other PAX events and seems to work well. Ticket prices cover cost of apps, dinner, tax, tip and fees. Advance purchase required, tickets will not be available at the door.

When you arrive, please provide your printed ticket. If for some reason you can't provide the ticket then have the email confirmation, .pdf, photo ID, or something that shows that you are who you say you are so we can get everyone quickly checked in.

What to wear…what to wear?
Anything that you want…it’s a casual event so have fun with it!

Final Note
I will not make a profit on this event and if at any time there is any doubt about this I will be more than willing to post all expenditures. If there is extra money at the conclusion of the event these remaining proceeds will be donated to Child's Play.

Thank you all and see you all at The Merchant!

Hey everyone, finally getting around to posting. I'm still talking to a couple of venues, but just trying to gauge interest before I finalize and put down a deposit. Last years was a blast, and I'm really looking forward to this year's festivities!

Hi Clann! Unsure I will be attending as it's up to my group, but thanks for running this, I'm sure you will have a good attendance :-) I'll see what I can do in terms of attending!

my group and I passed up the 2015 pre-pax diner in favor of the game night... This year however I believe we are more interested in meeting people and making connections; so my party of 6 would definitely be interested in attending this event. I am looking forward to seeing what venue you decide on and what menu they put forward (if possible try to get an inclusion of vegetarian options ((side side note: salad is usually a boring option)) ).

Yes, last year I made sure there were a vegetarian (non-salad) and gluten free options on the menu. We did plated meal and apps, which seemed to work out great. As it gets closer I will update with the menu items, and any feedback is welcome!

I know I am really health concious as far as what I eat and it is actually a deciding factor on whether or not I attend other parties in the past. By healthy I mean actual clean eating (not like a "diet" option). An example of a clean meal for me:

-Any protein selection (chicken, fish, beef) prepared cleanly (little to no grease, not fried)

-If side dish needs hard carbs (rice/bread) make it brown rice or whole wheat.

-Beverages that have no processed sugar in it.

That being said, a lot of people think healthy food tastes like cardboard and that couldn't be further fromt he truth. I look forward to a nice clean meal option in this PAX dinner.

    so any news on this?

I've narrowed it down to two places - The Merchant and The Tap Trailhouse. I've checked out Merchant, the food is good and the private dining area is a good size. I'm meeting with the event rep this week for Trailhouse, and will try out the food when I'm there. I will have the final dets and ticket up by the weekend.

The Tap's menu on their site is not working for me, but the Merchant looks really great if they get selected :-)

Assuming these options will allow minors accompanied by parents?

Yes, both locations allow minors. This is an all ages event, however, they are both restaurants with bars, so there will be alcohol available for those over 21 who want to partake.

The Merchant is the front runner right now as there is a dedicated private dinning area and their event staff has been easy to work with. I'm trying to get in today or tomorrow to The Tap TH so I will have a better idea of the dining area as opposed to just looking at the photos online.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to post a question, PM me, or you may also send messages to me via the Eventbrite page - once its live.

UPDATE 3/20: I'm waiting for the Tap's rep to send me the menu dets and final rates, was hoping to have this all wrapped up by today, will keep you all posted.

Gamer dad to gamer kids. Kerbalnaut first, then BF4. Will give any indie title a go.

Yes, merriment shall be had! I did an icebreaker type game last year to make it easier to mingle and meet new people, I think it went well, so I will look to do something like that again.
There isn't much room to actually play games in the restaurant though.

This sounds really awesome! My husband and I will be in town from Thursday-Sunday. This is only our second Pax, so we're looking to join in on more of the community events. We're hoping to attend after the Sox game once the details are posted!

My friend and I are in the same situation. We'll be at the Sox game and then we'll be looking for something to do. What better way to kick this weekend off than to meet some of you and have a bit to eat.

Since the group is expected to be large I need your meal selection several days prior to the event - you can send me a message via Eventbrite when you by a ticket or pm me here. If your undecided or forget so make a selection about a week out I send reminders.

hey on the menu is it possible to have an item from one of the entrees removed? i'd want the burger but cant do heavy bacon grease (or any really high fat concentrated meat) since it plays havoc with my stomach one bite in
