Pax Plans

There's so many threads for each thing separately I thought it would be cool to start a general discussion for our plans for Pax. What are you interested in seeing on the expo floor? What panels look awesome? Any parties that you definitely are not missing? How are you getting to Pax? Anything you want to check out in Boston? Who are you going with? How excited are you on a scale of one to "can't even"?

This is my first Pax and I've only been to the Seaport District a couple times. I used to work in Boston, but that was several years ago. I'm going to Pax because just within the last year or so I got really into tabletop games due to Wil Wheaton's Tabletop show on YouTube. I've always played video games, but I can't keep up with the latest and greatest and typically stick to a select few games over the year. I'm interested in checking out the expo floor, getting some free swag, and perusing through the indie games. My main interest is the tabletop section though. There are so many popular games I just haven't been able to check out.

On the expo floor, the Sony area is interesting to me as I think it would be cool to try out VR. However, that will very likely be too busy for my taste. Square Enix would be cool. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan. I know the games wont have too much of a presence if at all, but Hitman and Deus Ex are interesting series as well. I will be checking out Bethesda and Supergiant too. As for tabletop games, the creator of Plot Twist (on Kickstarter now, posted on Reddit) will be there, Quick and Dirty games, and there are a few more. I am sure as I search around I will be enlightened to even more.

I think the merchandise area will be of interest to me. I love great deals, but I was concerned when I saw the $35 water bottle on merch banner. The hoodie looks very awesome though. I might try to get my hands on that.

I will be staying at the Westin with a few people I met from this forum. I'm heading down solo so I needed help with room costs. I'm going to be down from Thursday to Monday. There is no chance I miss the Pre-Pax game night at the Westin on Thursday. I am so stoked that I will honestly probably be there right at 4. On Friday I will be lining up at 8 despite how I feel after Thursday night haha. I will likely, be there at 8 all three days. I don't like having any of my real Pax time being wasted in another line that could have been avoided. On Friday I will be at the Game Over party and on Saturday I will either be at the IGN party at Royale or the Acer Gaming Lounge. On Sunday, I am hoping for an impromptu Game of Thrones party because I will absolutely be watching that.

At some point I want to hit up the Harpoon Brewery because I've never been there. There are a lot of panels I want to see, but I'm not sure if there's one I'm just dying to go to and can't miss. I watched a YouTube video for Thrown Controllers and it looks like a lot of fun, but I'm just not that good at video game trivia. Like, how many rings are in the first Sonic the Hedgehog game or what Pokemon is #658 in the Pokedex? Who knows that? hahaha. It would be cool to watch though. I have all the panels I am interested in on Guidebook and every once in awhile I figure I'll take a peek and see what is coming up over the next couple hours. Maybe seeing the plans that you all have will pique my interest on a few other panels or put them in "can't miss" territory.

Let me know if I am doing Pax wrong :p. Also, tell me what your plans are. I need help with my plans because I have no idea what I am doing haha.

There are only two things, imo, that indicate one is doing PAX wrong.
    1. Not being excellent to each other
    2. Assuming you can do and see everything

I can tell you off the top of my head that Pokemon #658 is Greninja. Gen V ends at 649, so the next 9 are starters. Pretty easy.

I mean, ha, who would know that? Nerds.

    Incredible. I love that, man.

Friday - Leave home around 7:30 with my two co-PAXers, arrive at hotel around 9, drop off bags and chill for a bit. No need to get in line before 10 because I'm not in a big rush to see anything specific. Get through bag check line, enter BCEC and just soak it all in for a few minutes. Wander expo floor for a while, particularly focusing on the indie games. I have very little patience for lines, so I won't be seeing any of the major attractions. Explore the tabletop area, try some new games being demo'd, maybe join one of the tournaments depending on the time. See what my buddies are up to, check out anything cool that they've found. Hit up the classic arcade room. Grab some dinner. Back to BCEC for more tabletop exploring. Maybe a Magic draft. Crash.

Saturday - Will depend heavily on what I did/didn't get to do on Friday. Maybe join the NHL '94 tournament in classic console. Get dressed up snazzy for dinner reservations at Morton's Steakhouse at 7:30. Drink and eat way too much. Maybe head back to BCEC to watch the SSB64 tournament or play more tabletop games. Maybe not. Crash.

Sunday - Who knows? Maybe the full box sealed Magic event? More expo hall exploration? I like leaving Sunday open. Probably head out around 4-ish so that my buddies can get home at a reasonable hour. Crash early.

This is all very much subject to change once I actually get there. PAX cares not for your plans.
