Why do you hate the new COD IW trailer?

VinnyRollsRoyceVinnyRollsRoyce United StatesRegistered User regular
The new trailer is current sitting at 2.2 million dislikes, and it is arguably the most hated video in gaming category on youtube.

So why did you press the dislike button? How can you tell it'll suck just by looking at it? If your answer is "Because it's same shit every year", please be more elaborate.

IMO; I hate it because of just how ridiculous and over the top the campaign has become. remember when the series was about fighting the enemies in WWII or stopping the terrorist in modern time? Well now I seriously have no idea what's going on. Also, while the space battle is fresh new concept for a COD game, it has already featured is so many other games (Halo Reach, EVE, SW: Battlefront 2, just to name a few).

I actually am looking forward to playing it just as much as Battlefield 1. I find it funny that there's so many complaints about future settings and calls for World War settings when just a few years ago the gaming "community" was complaining about all the WWII shooters and RTS's.

The infantry combat looked completely mundane. I was actually interested in seeing how the sci-fi setting would change up the core gameplay, but if that firefight on the hill is any indication the answer is "not at all".

I thought it looked great. I'd like to see more gameplay, particularly in and around the space stuff before I make more of a decision, but I'm tentatively excited for it.

Yeah, I was curious about this too. Wondering if there's some meta reason to it, like nerds have objections to the production rather than the content of the trailer. Like those trailers for the Ghostbusters reboot have waaaay too many dislikes for what the trailer is.

I don't play em on the regular, so to the uninitiated, it looked pretty cool! Dopey choice for a song tho...

I typically don't care one way or the other about CoD nowadays; I played a bit of Black Ops back when it was current, but this near-future-military-porn stuff that's popular now is an fps fad that never appealed to me. With that in mind, that the new game is doubling down on that theme is disappointing, I guess, but I wouldn't have thrown the video a dislike if it weren't for that godawful Bowie cover. That song is an earcrime.

    I didn't hate it.

The flying into space thing looks fun, assuming it's not just scripted and you can fly around in space jets shooting people ala Battlefield.

I quite like the aesthetic as well. Too many modern shooters of late, so moving into the future or past will make for a nice change of pace.

Only realy critizism I have of it for a game trailer, is it doesn't really show off the game part. Though that might be less of an issue for CoD fans familiar with the series.

This is exactly it. A remake of CoD 4 is coming out, but instead of releasing it as its own thing, it's packaged with IW. You can safely assume they'll release the remake on its own once purchases of IW dry up. It's a pretty shitty thing to do.

AFAIK it's because it's just future stuff and people expect more gritty down to earth stuff from CoD, which conversely Battlefield is now going to provide as it achieved the exact opposite reaction from its trailer.

It is kind of weird to watch a series progress in that direction, become something that it was never about, when other franchises adequately provide what it's trying to be.

I'm excited for it. I always loved the feel of the CoD series, but the setting got stale. The more futuristic it goes, the more excited I get.

Let's get even more advanced next time. More space shooty, more weird planets, destroy all of civilization.

Then the next takes place 100 years later on a far away planet, and it's all swords and sorcery. Heretic by Infinity Ward.

I normally make fun of cawadootie games (and the people that play them), so when I heard a while back that the trailer for the new one had so many dislikes I knew I had to check that shit out.

So I hit play and I see some regular shootman stuff but with hovering ships, and then a guy gets into a jet and flies into space, and then there is a dogfight in space, then a space station, and a robot, and more space stuff, then what looks like a mining rig on one of the moons of Saturn, and then more shooting? It looked rad as hell.

I echo most of the people who are saying that the Bowie cover was an unfortunate choice, but holy shit if this is the direction that Call of Duty is going in than brother, sign me the hell up.

It didn't look any worse or better than any other COD trailer in history, and I'm pretty sure people are just hating it to belong.

As someone that was very unhappy with how CoD progressed after MW2, enough so that I stopped playing them (after BlOps2), I have a hard time believing that people who actually cared about the game and the way they progress would care enough to click a dislike button. I find it more likely that they would just move on to other games.
    But I've been wrong before.
