Quasi-Wedding Wedding Gift question

DrezDrez Registered User regular
First off, I know I can do anything I want, but I'm trying to figure out what makes the most sense.

An acquaintance/friend of mine is getting married at City Hall (which I won't be attending) and is having a celebration tonight at a rooftop club (which I will be attending).

In this kind of situation, would you give the same kind of gift you would normally give? I always give a card + cash/check, usually $75 or $100 if it's a close friend.

This isn't a real reception. It's basically bottle service type party at a club.

Is money even the right kind of gift in this situation? Or should I go buy some dumb thing at Things Remembered or what?

I think you're probably okay with the standard card + money combo.

My only hang up would be if they plan to do a full blown marriage and reception in the next year or so, then I'd save the gift for that.

Otherwise if they're planning on this event being the only event to celebrate with friends, then a gift is totally fine if you want to help them out on their new life together.

I'm pretty sure this is the only party they're going to have.

    edit: Thanks.
