In happier news, this is a drink called The Story Behind My Wooden Hand:
    dyim6g6g7abg.jpg
It's rye, dimmi, cynar, Buddha Hand Bitters, garnished with orange and white chocolate.
Hey, you're at Oddjob, right? Check out Whitechapel if you get the chance. You're not far. It's a gin bar with great atmosphere and some tasty drinks. Maybe not tonight though, I'm not sure you'd get there before last call.

I stayed at the Embassy Hotel a couple months ago on vacation and Whitechapel is the only place we hit more than once.

EDIT: Wow I didn't hit refresh and failed to realize how late it had gotten.

I got kinda drunk last night and stopped checking the forums after a bit (probably for the best). But yeah, I live here in SF and I was actually just at Whitechapel earlier tonight for the Sunday roast.

I like Whitechapel a lot, but my main jam here in SF is Smuggler's Cove. My other favorite SF bar is Alembic. Rapidly moving up the list is 15 Romolo, which is where I ended up at last night after Oddjob and The Devil's Acre.

That is a fantastic name. The drink itself sounds awful though.

I thought it was pretty good, but I like dimmi (well, at least the three cocktails I've had it in, anyway). And, well, rye.

I think Secondhand Lions is a better movie than The Princess Bride.

I too have never seen the Princess Bride but I'm saving it for a first date because I have been advised to do so.

  • knitdanknitdan Registered User regular
I preferred the porn parody, Secondhand Loins.

You should try looking about 15. I'm 31 next month and haven't yet been able to buy a lottery ticket without getting asked to see my ID

Then the questions are "what's your secret?" "What moisturiser do you use" and "where do you keep the painting" instead.

It's kinda weird. People either think I'm at least 35 or about 25, but never anything in the middle where I actually am.

    As a movie you're right

As a cultural touchstone for peiple roughly 28-40 years old, it's fucking vital.

Terrible love story though, xaquins right about that.

Inigo's storyline is the one that actually matters anyway, as far as I'm concerned.

I really enjoy the Princess Bride. It is a great movie.

Maybe not so much the movie is great, but it has a lot of entertainment value.

So when movie critics put it in their top 100 I'm like Sure.

I would recommend it as a date movie because it's not a real love story and more of a comedy. Also everyone should see it once to be culturally savvy and I would say watching it won't be a waste of your time.

Yes, the book Peter Falk is reading to Baby Fred Savage is an actual book. That's one of my favorite things about the movie, actually, is that it has a built in conceit for both being a book adaptation and for why it's a bit different from the book at times.

Ironically, despite being designed around the conceit of being an abridged version of an older book with none of the boring parts, the book is way less fun than the movie.

Aliens is an incredibly good action movie. But it's just an incredibly good action movie.

The best thing we got from it was an absolutely kick ass female character.

That in the movie she is just wary of the marines and Bruke
She finds another survivor and then vows to protect her at all costs knowing she is not the only one to experience them and survive them

She fights to protect a lot of people by mid point, Newt, Bishop, the marines, Hudson, etc.

I honestly still don't get your point.

And people having to die before a character becomes words like Strong and Independent or whatever is being stabbed at here is not gender unique.

But this is a really dumb and annoying topic for the British Thread.

I'll forward this issue to parliament to vote on the next topic. That sounds right.

    Yeah.

PS Fish and chips is dope. A family friend also loves fish and chips, and the best they've had has been on a pub on the Thames. I am jealous!

And with that, the thread is properly righted towards Britain, love, and love of food (the one true love).
