Did it cost him the title? I thought they tried to help him with in the title pretty emphatically. All it did was sell him as a baby face which makes sense as it set up tonight.

I'm not sure having somebody turn on John Cena is the best way to turn somebody heel because a lot of the audience is going to like AJ more than Cena but the whole "I'm doing the world a favor" thing hints at maybe more interesting stuff to come...

Yeah, character motivation wise, it's actually really good.

his entire feud with Roman was a struggle to be a good guy despite Gallows and Anderson being shoulder devils
and in the end, it fucked him
if he had just embraced the dark side, maybe he would've beat Roman
so now Cena's back, and is up to his usual Superman bit
