I don't like that basic things like the sniper rifle and remote explosive are gated behind getting 20/20 on the Paris level. There's a lot not to like about that level!

15 years ago they hired a bad actor and the fanbase won't let them move on.

One of the other levels has an easier to get sniper at least.

I feel that it didn't take me long to get master on the first three full levels. I just looked at the various challenges and picked a few to do each run. It actually became fun trying things I wouldn't do in a normal run. I do not like escalations though. I've only done one.

Paris is a pretty good level when you figure out how to get the top security disguise quickly, and when you learn how to get from the top of the building without bypassing any security checkpoints.

The different starting points are pretty good at cutting out some of the set-up that you need.

Personally, i just figure 47 has lot of hobbies (can't spend all of your time practicing murder).
And, well, being a hitman involves hitting things, being a drummer involves hitting things, it all fits together.

I would argue that this game has easily the most sympathetic target of any of the games, save maybe the swing king. The lady from the Sapienza mission has some legitimately heartbreaking dialogue and I never feel good about taking her out, even if she's doing science that people shouldn't do.

As far as the violence, it's very sanitised compared to other games in the series. Which is a shame in some ways, because the matter-of-fact brutality of Blood Money underscored the fact that what 47 is doing is wrong and he isn't a nice person. Making the violence clean and bloodless (and having head trauma be totally non-lethal) is a bit of a cop out, but maybe I read too much into it.

Notice also: 47 in Blood Money looks and moves like a football hooligan, because he's an awful, violent piece of shit. 47 in 2016 stands like a cool, suave motherfucker. The series has vacillated between 47 being neutral evil and 47 being dark side James Bond, this is closer to the James Bond style in terms of the music queues and general presentation of the character.

I was watched someone play this as they knocked out a bodyguard with a soda can, before spinning around and killing their

it looks real easy to get silent assassin in this one, because I remember treating my nonlethal injectors like precious precious gold in other Hitmans

I've pretty much stopped grabbing people in sleeper holds, as it just seems better all around to bean them with a throwable object, and they're always plentiful enough to pick up.
Especially soda cans, which vaporise on contact. Satisfying. Very satisfying.

The lock-on melee throwing hasn't been in these before, right?

    It was in Absolution.
That game actually had a lot of good ideas, it just hid them really well by covering it all with grindhouse shit.
This one's gone though and taken the good bits of Absolution and put them in an actual Hitman game.

A new escalation is out, set in night-time Marrakesh. This one gets real complicated real fast.

edit- That was a really good escalation, it required some great refining of a plan without adding any of the kind of bullshit complications that some other missions add. (like tripwires or landmines or super-guards that see through all disguises.)

I think Marrakesh is my least favourite mission. The Embassy is super finicky to get around because all the guards are psychic, and the abandoned school is both relatively trivial and a super boring setting. I did find that it's surprisingly easy to get suit silent assassin on it. I started the sniper challenge but can't find a spot where I can hit the general. The shot to hit Julian Assange is like a mile and a half.

btw it's bullshit that suit silent assassin only gets you the same amount of points as every other challenge because that shit is normally a super ballache.

I'm glad they have the night-time variant that doesn't use the embassy or school, because I find it very easy to over-use the tunnel and just avoid everything in between. As for sniper spots there might be some viewpoints for the general if you climb around from the headmaster's terrace.

New Elusive Target is up, bit nervous to start it as I completely botched the last one.

there's like one spot from which you can snipe the general, and you've got to platform all over the place, and if you don't use a silenced rifle you are completely dead with no chance of doing anything.

I tried the elusive target for five minutes and gave up because I couldn't find her. I guess I could just wait at the auction but that sounds boring.

You already describe my general strategy.
    The meeting is at
the office of Margolis, the room with the computer.
There will be extra guards with her though.

    My strategy was to:
start at the gate wearing the suit and remote explosive,
climb to 3rd floor by a drainage pipe from where the helicopter is,
dash into the attic and out of sight, close the door, then climb out the window and enter into Margolis's bathroom,
lure the guard using the radio and steal his outfit and hide the body in the closet,
then lure the two guards inside Margolis room behind auction room and hide them in the closet,
then finally, once Margolis was meeting with the pharmacist, throw in the remote explosive in the office and detonated it, killing the target, and run back into Margolis's room before getting seen, then walk through the auction to the corner balcony, go over the railing when out of sight, then down the drainage pipe, and fly of in the helicopter.

The remote explosive is hard to get, but don't you get a sniper rifle real early? The silenced one is all I use and I've had it almost from the beginning

The only other one you unlock through Paris looks like it's loud, and the fuck's the point of that

Also I miss the briefcase 47 would carry around that contained the sniper rifle, and you could assemble and disassemble it so you didn't have to worry about openly carrying a giant rifle on your back

I guess that would trivialize some of the missions... but I don't care let me unlock it or something

From what I remember it's a Paris unlock, and far enough in to be annoying when you don't like Paris (it grew on me). I think a basic rifle should be a starting unlock. Also I used the loud rifle once! It has a better scope, which is useful in Bangkok because the shot to kill Leto is heinous. It causes a huge fucking ruckus though.

Elusive target down! The familiarity with Paris after doing a bunch of escalations paid off.
I started in the attic, eliminated some cicada guards for their uniforms and got into Dahlia's meeting room. Lured the guard with the radio and knocked him out, then planted the explosive phone in the room. Margolis' Bodyguard picked it up and when she met the target at the top of the stairs I detonated it, taking out the target. Then it was a tense climb down the outside to safety.

  • TubeTube Registered User admin
    I did it!
You can't get her from the barge, but you can get her from the end of the garden. It's actually really simple, but it takes her roughly six minutes from the start to show up so you're chilling out down there for a while.

It seems like the problem with elusive targets is that they incentivise playing incredibly safely

Yeah the Elusive Targets are not about making grand plans, they're kind of core concept "get in and get out and get it done quickly and easily as possible"

Which I like in contrast to the regular missions

My hope is eventually they either loop them back around or allow you to try each one once a week/month/something. I'd like to know what dialogue this lady has! What kind of stuff does she do in the level? But I will never know, because I killed her from half a mile away with the finger of god.

  • pookapooka Registered User regular
we lingered on the Gary Busey mission -- saw his route quite a few times to hear all the dialogue, then chucked a golfball at him from the balcony.

I have created my own challenge called Jared Leto Has A Great Day

You pick a contract that doesn't use him as a target, but before you finish you have to ensure that he has a great day.

Jared Leto's father buys him a vegan birthday cake. It's delicious! All his friends sing him happy birthday.
Jared Leto gets a brand new vintage microphone. It sounds great!
Jared Leto gets a new drummer! The two of them are the best of friends
Jared Leto is sad because a bad lady has incriminating evidence on him, but then a nice man breaks into her safe and steals it from her
Jared Leto has a bad stalker, but then a nice man shoots the stalker in the head

  • klemmingklemming Registered User regular
One of the rifles you can unlock doesn't have a silencer, but does have a very high penetration on its shot.
As in, if they're standing still, you can spot them with instinct, then shoot them clean through a wall. Or floor.
Pick an empty spot and you can be long gone by the time anyone shows up to see what that bang was.

Nobody remembers the singer. The song remains.
