Odd PC Headset Issue

I recently picked up a Hyper X Cloud 2 headset for my PC. It's a good pair of headphones, and a massive improvement over the ~$20 pair I'd been rocking previously. Here's the issue:
  • The headset can be plugged into the PC via a normal headset jack, or via a usb adapter.
  • If using the headset jack, I can't use the mic (my PC has separate headphones and mic ports), so I figure I'll stick with the usb adapter.
  • The thing is, Windows can't detect or use the headset unless I disable the Realtek audio driver (which requires a reboot).
  • Once I've disabled the driver, Windows can't detect or use my speaker bar (which uses an optical audio cable to connect to the motherboard), unless I re-enable the Realtek driver (which also requires a reboot).

I'd love to get things configured so that switching from speakers to headset doesn't require a reboot, but I haven't been able to find any solutions. It's not exactly a critical issue, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has an idea.

Thanks!

Should have been a rock star.

Something isn't right here. What version of windows are you running?

Windows 7. Planning on upgrading to 10, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. And yeah, it's super weird. I've found a number of other forum questions about the headsets, and typically 'disable the Realtek driver' works for people, but I haven't seen anyone else with this particular issue.

Should have been a rock star.
