Is there a way around this other than re-angling my camera?
I play it seated and haven't had a problem. If you need to rotate things further than is comfortable, you can use the right stick to shift the camera round in increments.
Whenever I sit down, I get an up arrow prompting me to stand. Also, the display is centered for me standing, definitely not when I sit. Maybe I have something configured wrong? But there's nothing in the Darknet game options to recenter my view.
When you go deep into a cave or something, the claustrophobia sets in as well. That game is incredibly immersive already.
So you're god damn right I'm going to try it once my Rift gets here.
Stand, I think. It was a long time ago now.
The camera is pointing at my face while standing. Upwards, at a 30/35 degree angle. Isn't that how your sensor is supposed to be set up?
Well, a lot of games seem to be made for standing, and if I sit I clip through textures.
Other games are fine sitting. Elite Dangerous (granted, I'm running it from Steam) is perfect while sitting.
When I run through the camera calibration (I do it every now and then because I'm often slightly adjusting the position of the camera), it often wants to be angled down more than I expect, mine's really only pointing up at about a 5-10 degree angle right now, I'd guess. When I point it more directly at my head whilst standing, it tends to throw an error and ask me to adjust it.
That's weird. I could have sworn it tells you to point it at your face.
Yeah, run sensor setup again. Make sure you stand, and your height is configured correctly.
I've never clipped through anything. Your headset should know where the floor is, and it sounds like there's something going weird there.
Vektron's Revenge, Floor Plan, Darknet...
Of those, I've only played Darknet, and never had any problems sitting down to start the game. Never needed to reset position or anything.
Well, Vektron's Revenge would be pretty difficult sitting anyway. It's basically a 360 degree Geometry Wars knockoff, but it's a bit weird to spin around in a chair to play it.
I'll try reconfiguring. I have too many fucking games on my plate now. I haven't even fully set up my pedals for Elite Dangerous yet.
Thanks for the advices!
I think you want it at your face while seated. Which would be roughly midsection height while standing, I think.
No. Should I be? I thought you were supposed to leave the angle alone once configured.
Yeah, you are, just checking. Tilting the camera down after setup would produce those symptoms, I think.
Did you reboot Steam after the first installation of Steam VR?
And did you also run the configuration tool?
I couldn't do anything until I fully exited Steam (and closed all Steam-related tasks) and then reopened it.
Hah, restarting steam did it.
On an unrelated note, Elite Dangerous is amazing in the headset!
I spent 45 minutes trying to figure that out before simply restarting Steam.
Did the Oculus Rift actually end up being as picky as was at first thought with regard to USB ports? I'm looking at the Asus Z170 but can't find if it'll be fine or not (I'm not entirely convinced on Rift or Vive yet but I'd like to be open to both). I know I can shove in a separate card with the right USB slots but if I can get them on the motherboard I'd probably prefer it.

Oculus Rift: Sir_Grinch
Whatever. Works great now. Darknet is a lot of fun! Maybe the most fun I've had with the Rift, though Please, Don't Touch Anything is amazingly fun and Hitman: GO VR is also pretty awesome.
I think it's interesting that, for me, the least expensive games are so far the most enjoyable. (Elite: Dangerous and Chronos notwithstanding.)
Battlezone was definitely the winner of the three. The gameplay was fast and fun, and the fact that you're sitting down in the game helps immersion a lot, in contrast to the other two demos which would probably feel more immersive if you were allowed to stand. The cockpit environment, moving through the hangar, and your weapons moving up and down the sides of the vehicle look awesome
Headmaster I picked just because I hadn't seen anyone else do it, and it was better than I expected. It had a good amount of humor and flavor, rather than being just a dry sports sim, and getting to do some motion control was fun. It was REALLY easy to spike balls into the ground instead of more directly forward though, and I'm not sure if that's the game's fault or because I know nothing about hitting balls with my head. The motion is, predictably, also likely to cause the headset and headphones to slip, but I don't know if maybe that wouldn't be a problem if I had more time to get the fit just right.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the extent to which they tease you at the end. I'm not sure if I'm amused or legitimately annoyed.
The Shark Cage experience was neat, but there's not THAT much to say about it. It maybe could have used more variety, as it was basically 1/8 coral reef, 1/8 manta rays, 1/8 jellyfish, and 5/8 shark swimming around you and intermittently attacking your cage. I'd compare it to theBlu if I'd ever played theBlu, but I haven't, so I won't.
Even though I can't use the Vive to its full potential yet (somewhat weak GPU and lack of space), I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get it eventually, so maybe I'll just order one immediately.
I'm sold.
Too bad PSVR is sold out for now till forever. Maybe by the time I can actually get a headset the games will be that much better.
My only complaint is that the field of vision is a little limited and I wish I had more time to fiddle with the headset adjustment to make it a little bit sharper.
Is PSVR out in the US already ?
It's not out until October here in the UK.
If so, that might be to our advantage, as it will have had 5 months of bug fixes and refining, plus more demos by launch.
Headset is nice and light, and being able to look around a cockpit just by turning my head was really cool. I'm still not sure VR is the future or whatever, but I totally see the appeal now and am seriously considering a PSVR if anything comes out for it that sounds cool.
Mate, that is rad!
