Microwave repair: Temporary replacement or fix for a broken waveguide cover?

DrezDrez Registered User regular
Long story short, I was cleaning the inside of the microwave with a damp paper towel and I wasn't being very careful. I ended up ripping the waveguide cover in half. I still have both pieces. Is it save to, like, tape it together and use the microwave until the replacement part comes? (Already ordered, but it will take awhile.)

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

as long as the tape doesn't react to the microwaves you should be fine. The only purpose of the cover is to allow microwaves through and block steam from getting onto the electronics.
