I think the way you engage with and talk about Homestuck and its creator is really weird and unhealthy! You should probably stop, I think you'll be a lot happier

Homestuck probably wasn't good for anybody's mental health

    least of all Hussie's

What do you mean? It’s totally normal to create an account on an ancient forum and bump a 3 year dormant thread, then when you get no engagement do it again months later just to be incredibly aggressive toward both the topic of the thread and the people responding to you!

Posting something sagacious like: Actually Homestuck isn't over. In a sense, it never even started.

Why does the post count keep going up on a three year old thread.

iirc one of the final points of Psycholonials was "i don't want to do anything that puts me in the public eye anymore, please leave me alone"

    Sounds ruing adjacent at least.

You are getting extremely aggro about a webcomic and its creator - by all evidence having created an account here just to come in and yell about Homestuck^2, but apparently mostly as a gateway into yelling about Hussie. You are clearly very upset about it, but nobody here is particularly invested, and nobody wants to engage with what you're saying because the way you post about it is very unpleasant and combative

honestly the fact that you're not convinced zoomers read Homestuck tells me that, not only are you weird about being mad at Hussie for weird reasons, but you don't even actually interact with the rest of the recent Hamsteak fandom all that much

because *most* of the people who I know interacted with Homestuck any time after, like, 2015 or so are people born after 1998

I do think it has a fanbase among Zoomers do not get me wrong but I think it is ultra niche like it isn't mainstream internet culture anymore no one even remembers it for how big it was it fizzled from public consciousness pretty quickly.
    also

I gave money for a Kickstarter reward I will never get cause I moved out of Michigan years ago (homestuck on a hard drive) and I was also disgusted at the way Hussie treated his employees and contributors these are all very valid reasons to dislike the guy

That's all fine, just not sure why you wanted to talk to us about it. We had a homestuck following here back when the original comic was running but that was like, 10-15 years ago now. You can see the last vestiges of it over the last 5 years of mostly nothing in this thread if you read back, with a brief intermission to get hype about deltarune as a vaguely homestuck-adjacent piece of media. Not many people here follow homestuck stuff anymore.

If your next question is “why are you posting in the thread”, man this is SE++, by Friday this will be a thread about spaghetti and samosas.

I'm not sure how new people even get into Homestuck from scratch these days. I was under the impression that the website barely works these days, due to Flash dying and the new owners not really caring. I heard there were apps to read the strip now, but I was under the impression that was more for existing fans to enjoy it again (and possibly without the more ... unpleasant elements.)

You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.

I still see some degree of fandom about homestuck swirling around on tumblr and such, somehow
some folks are nostalgic for it I think

There’s like a self contained download of all of it wrapped in a custom browser that can run (or emulate?) flash. I downloaded it a few years back but haven’t actually tried it because damn it’s a lot.

Yeah, I reread some of the comic through that. Worked perfectly for the about half or third I read. Also had some neat extras, like a fake homestuck.bandcamp page showing all the albums and their track lists.

The Unofficial Homestuck Collection is pretty great, yeah. It even has a newsfeed that updates as you go along, only includes the retjohns once they happen, links to the bandcamp for whatever song is playing in a flash, also includes all the other MSPA/Hussie comics and whatnot...

There's also a whole bunch of mods for whatever you can think of. Author commentary; translating morse code, Japanese, and typing quirks; slur replacement; playable DOOM...

This is honestly the most shocking part. You'd think the fandom would have moved down either the Undertale/Deltarune direction or into the TAZ/Critical Role/Dimension 20 liveplay pathway. My only source of reference are my niece and nephew, at 19 and 14, and I know that my nephew at least has Brennan's "I Can't Win" rant practically memorized.

99% of the comments are asking what a Homestuck is. I don't know where this idea of kids nowadays still being into Homestuck came from the fandom is a ghost town.

Undertale is older now than Homestuck was when it ended in 2016. So kids today liking either is still them latching onto a decently aged piece of media at this point.

The Kids These Days are definitely more into Undertale/Deltarune than Homestuck (it's simply more accessible) but even a tiny tiny percentage of the size of the Undertale fandom is still tens of thousands

The Kids These Days are still into fuckin' Danganronpa for chrissakes (Google Trends results for Danganronpa are higher during the 2020s and esp the pandemic lockdown era than even in the actual release window during the 2010s), and at least in the West that fandom is also absolutely a Homestuck successor fandom in its origins

For Danganronpa, the fact that it got releases on more popular consoles in 2019-2021 instead of being on Vita or PC is a pretty big factor; if you're looking at the same google trend I am, you can see pretty clearly that its peak is associated with those rereleases and the other peak was the PC version in 2016.

Yeah but the big difference is that undertale is short and good.

I still see kids playing custom games involving sigmaSans or ghasterSans+ with a megalovania remix in the background.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
