Anxiety and shaking (uncontrollable and controlled)

Hi, so Ive got a pretty bad thing with panic, anxiety, and depression.

Now often Ill get the shakes when "coming down" from a really bad panic attack. Its absolutely uncontrollable and I just have to wait it out.

However, recently a different kind of shaking has happened. While the movement is out of my control, I feel like I "choose" which part will shake... which is more like a twitch. So my whole body doesnt move at once, just parts, and I feel like Im partially in control of whats going to shake next, but I cant stop it. The switching is often rapid and it takes serious self-control to reign it in.

What bothers me is the fact that Im in control a little. It starts and goes on, and if it happens in front of people I feel horribly embarrassed by it because of the control factor. It happens when Im alone a lot more.

Is this a thing? I dont even know what to look up to see what kind of thing this is. I really dont like it and if its a conscious thing Id like to know how to stop doing it...

Thanks for any help

I don't know if it's that abnormal to make a digit or limb tremble and shake by concentrating on it. Just holding a hand out flat and open palm down and trying to hold it still will make my hand shake.

You should call a doctor, but do so calmly.

Well, its less concentrating and actively doing and more so just kind of cycling...

I have the same thing happen with me. I don't think too much of it though. I know when I was a kid and I calmed myself by having my leg shake a teacher got freaked out and I went through a bunch of tests that ultimately said everything was cool. Haven't thought much of it since but I guess it's abnormal?

Well, its kind of like my entire body and Im effectively immobile for about 20 minutes until it stops...

I have an appt with my psych on the 1st. I'd like to rule out anxiety/panic disorder as a cause before we start getting into physical ailments, because with the VA that could take years of tests and people giving me the stink eye. It only happens when I'm having a pretty strenuous day and a bad case of anxiety... which is unfortunately nearly daily, as far as the anxiety goes.

I don't know why this stuff is just blowing up in the past year, even before my divorce.

I used to be able to tell when my ex's anxiety was building up because she'd start kind of rapidly bouncing her leg using the balls of her foot. What you're describing doesn't sound too out of the ordinary for those symptoms. Definitely get to a doctor, though. Medication will help.

Oh good. I bet the psych can help you figure that out. It sounds potentially psychosomatic. Any way to move the appt up? Do they know you are having bad anxiety near daily?

If you have VA questions, I don't know anything, but I do work near a lot of case workers, if that's what they're called.

What you have is called a tremor. It's impossible to know any more without treating your anxiety, and Internet diagnosis roulette won't help. Tremor is very common in anxiety, but it is the physician's job to rule out possible underlying causes, such as essential tremor.

Until August 1st, the most you can do is relax, exercise, and eat healthy. Low magnesium and calcium can exacerbate tremors. Exercise and sleep can regulate your stress hormones. Relaxation may help your anxiety. Stay away from or reduce exposure to specific anxiety inducing triggers, and engage in activities that relieve anxiety.
