    Creepy.

Would this be the equivalent of a human skin leatherbound book? Or writing with blood instead of ink?

I definitely think the show is heading towards an everyone-comes-together-and-the-bad-guys-are-redeemed ending.

    Thoughts:

Jasper's main beef was that Rose supposedly shattered Pink Diamond. If Rose really didn't don it and Jasper is convinced someone else is responsible (perhaps a Homeworld conspiracy) she might could join the Crystal Gems.

Bismuth's deal was that she didn't want to show Homeworld's soldiers any more mercy. Perhaps the presence of new Homeworld defectors could help change her mind, or maybe she'd be willing to aid in a plan to remove the Diamonds from power once and for all. Honestly, I can envision Jasper making a heel-face-turn easier than I can Bismuth...

Both Bismuth and Jasper caused Lapis Lazuli harm, and she's already reluctant to join the Crystal Gems. It would be very difficult for her to work with both the one who poofed her, leading to her imprisonment in the mirror, and the one who brought her back to Earth as a prisoner again.
One thing that I think is almost inevitable is that Steven will, at some point, at least try to heal the gem that Rose shattered

Not in any meaningful way. The Cluster is a unique case but normal shards areņt self aware

The scroll had will. It was alive. And Steven snuffed out that life without hesitation or remorse.

Why is it important to you this point is made

why are you writing grimdark Steven universe fanfiction

It's just a matter of record, Whippy. It's canon.

    Nah

it is never said that the gems are alive in there

it's filled with "dark magic" and that's it

I'm 100% down with explaining it as fucked up necromancy that was powered by the now dead gems (because if shattering kills a gem then grinding them up so fine as to make ink absolutely would) rather than the gems themselves

Sure, Steven "killed" the gem dust painting. After it possessed his breakfast to turn it into a giant monster to attack his family and try to crush him. Steven didn't know that it was made of gems, nor did he even know what a gem was at that point, nor that the monsters Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl fight used to be like them. Steven got caught up in something he didn't know about and acted defensively to save his family and himself from a breakfast monster. If anyone deserves blame, it's Garnet.

Frankly the fact Garnet would want it destroyed is enough proof that it was to dangerous to just bubble

I wish there was an explanation for the more magical-seeming elements in the first half of the first season. I know according to the art book that the show was originally more fantasy than sci-fi, but it still feels weird that the empire used to basically have portable time machines (for example).

The idea that shards are still alive is a weird thing, since shattering a gem is considered synonymous with killing them. It's why Peridot forcibly fusing gem shards was fucking awful

  • TofystedethTofystedeth Registered User regular
They seem to be still 'alive' but only at whatever level passes for cellular/metabolic in a being made out of minerals and magical light. Like a tentacle separated from a squid.

With what he knows now, Steven does definitely feel for gem Shards, such as the cluster and the other forced fusions (like the ones he felt bad about blasting off the drill on the way to the cluster).

Remember when he used some shards to animate Frybo? I very much doubt he'd do that now, knowing what he does.

this is also why season 1 is the best

Well you do thrive on general vagueness for your dark scripts so that makes sense
