[Deus Ex] It's not cancelled yet, but you can see it from here
Following up on my DX Revision edit: I contacted the mod team about it, pointing out the change and including a copy of the edited file. They got back to me with a nice email thanking me for notifying them; seems like that was indeed the issue. The next patch is already locked down but they'll incorporate that fix into the following patch, along with a working message prompt (Revision currently overrides that function).
I honestly didn't expect a followup, so that was pretty cool of them. Felt good to make even a tiny contribution to something I've having fun with
$15 looks like a good deal! I've been meaning to try this game myself. I had a blast with the original Deus Ex and with Human Revolution. What should I expect with this one? I remember people weren't 100% happy with this game when it originally came out.

So Mankind Divided just went on sale on Steam, currently $15 down from $60. So I got it finally!
My first exposure to the in-game graphics was very questionable mouth animation during dialogue. This is going to be bad isn't it?
I don't recall having much of an issue in that department. Might be a PC thing?
I played on PC and thought the animations and stuff were generally perfectly fine.
Mankind's Divided weaknesses are really that it just doesn't move the plot ball terribly far downfield, but most of that is because it has Middle Title Syndrome. I think it's an overall fantastic game, really fun to play with some really interesting side stories.
The game on PC for me definitely felt like it ran like a kludgey beast (at one point to get past the firing range bug I had to drop my inventory causing my frames to dip into single digits (980ti/32 gigs of ram, ssd and a quad xeon), and while moments of gameplay shined I was ultimately bored by the heavy handed and unfinished the story is...
Ugh, well that sucks. But it might at least give them time to figure out how to end a game.
Ironically, I think it was also Square Enix who said "No, no, don't tell the whole story. End it earlier so we can all make them salivate over a juicy sequel."

Deus Ex was probably deemed a failure because it didnt sell 100 million copies.
Square Enix is such a shit publisher. Between Sleeping Dogs, the handling of Mankind Divided, and their utter dickery with Tomb Raider I don't trust them to pour water from a boot.

Not to mention the dumping of IO Interactive this week.
It's funny because, unlike Activision and the like, I really enjoy a lot of Squeenix games. It's just that they keep doing these dumb things over and over again. Fuck it, even Konami ended it all pretty fast (to go deep into Pachinko.)

Games I really enjoyed from Square Enix:
Tomb Raider(s)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution. MK was just too meh for me. It's basically Prague, sewers, Prague, bank, cool Golem city, Prague, bank, sewers, GARM, Prague, London. And Prague is really boring.
Hitman
Sleeping Dogs
Three of those franchises have been axed. Extremely disappointing.

Well it's only been a few months so calling the series dead forever is a bit silly. Look at the gap in time between Invisible War and Human Revolution. Or do you guys really want bi-annual releases?
That said though, Square is the absolute worst when it comes to business expectations as a publisher. It was discovered years ago with the Tomb Raider reboot that when a Square property fails to make sales goals, the amount it's missed by gets placed onto another title and usually one of the non-Square-direct titles. So when Final Fantasy shit the bed once, the burden was placed on Tomb Raider to hit 7 million sales in I think the first month, which is what a lunatic would say without any knowledge of the video game industry. But Square thusly considered Tomb Raider a 'failure' and Eidos was on notice for a while.
I never heard anything about that internal practice changing, so it wouldn't surprise me if Mankind Divided got the same treatment.

I've enjoyed SE published games a hell of a lot more than SE developed games over the past 5+ years.

That's not how this works! That's not how any of this works!
None of that is to say I agree with it. We found out about it back when we had an Industry thread here in G&T and someone paid attention to one of the Square shareholder conference calls. And during said call, yeah, turns out Square does something nobody else in the industry does and it's fucking dumb.

I havent picked up any of the DLC's are they worth it? They seem all right.
Am in the unusual position of not picking up a game for £10 that I'd probably ordinarily enjoy because it'd pale against the excellence of the previous one.
Actually, this is how I felt about Skyward Sword for the longest time.

I don't think I've bought a SE-made game in the last ten years, they just keep doubling down on stories and characters I can't stand.
I've bought the two most recent Tomb Raider games, DE:HR, the latest Hitman, and Sleeping Dogs, though. If they want to divest themselves of all their properties that I actually play, fuck 'em, there's plenty of other publishers out there these days.

The only SE game I've bought during that time that I've enjoyed has been FF XIV, which, while it has some warts (like a long ass time to get into the meat of the story, UI and inventory limitations, etc.), is pretty damn good. I have the two Bravely Default games, but I don't think I've even got through the first quarter of the original because it's a bit too grindy for my tastes. I had no interest in the XIII games, and I feel that XV is one of the worst games I've ever played. So, that's basically a 1-for-7 on the games I can think of that they developed.
Meanwhile, I really enjoyed both DX games (HR more than MD) and I think Sleeping Dogs is one of the best games of last gen.
So, yeah... I don't really like what's coming out of SE proper, and would like to see them continue to diversify instead of doubling down on what I don't like. And if they can't do that, well, that's too bad for them. I'll just take my money elsewhere.
We have never said anything about discontinuing that title but for some reason that's the rumour out on the market.
What I can say is Eidos Montreal has always developed Deus Ex, and the issue is we do not have limitless resources. We have several big titles that we work with and that's partly a factor in what our line-up looks like. Of course, it would be ideal if we could work on all of them all of the time, but the fact of the matter is some titles have to wait their turn. The reason there isn't a Deus Ex right now is just a product of our development line-up because there are other titles we are working on.
...
We are already internally discussing and exploring what we want do with the next instalment of it.
Jack Handey really summed up my personal thoughts on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided more succinctly and eloquently than I ever could:
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. “Mankind.” Basically it’s made up of two separate words -- “mank” and “ind.” what do these words mean? It’s a mystery, and that’s why so is mankind.
I really loved Mankind Divided. I absolutely understand the complaints that other folks have, but I think it did some things really well (I thought the Prague hub was a masterpiece, for example), and purely subjectively it just really worked for me in a DeusExy way.
I will say, though, that it definitely felt like Human Revolution was a "We won't get another shot at a Deus Ex, throw everything that's even remotely Deus Ex in there! Globe-trotting, China, a U.S. city that's been battered and has homeless people around trashcan-fires, Tracer Tong!" and then Mankind Divided was "Hey, we were successful last time and have the trust of a major studio! Let's take our time and slow-roll this, make the whole game set primarily around one city, cover the span of just a few days, and focus on a fairly localized threat." In my mind, that last part would make it really tragic if they never get a shot at making another Deus Ex.
Oh, and I can respect that resources are limited and the next Deus Ex has to sit on the back-burner, but maybe let's not make it another 5 years until the next game. I feel like this franchise is a bit niche, and I don't know that it can reliably lay dormant and then rise again to mass success.

Anyone can confirm?
I dug it a lot, yeah. Would recommend. The story is more like one big investigation mission, with lots of exploration opportunities.

Its a bummer that they got rid of IO Interactive... I live like 20 miles from their headquarters.

Probably waiting for a sale though.
