I'm attempting to start a podcast. However I'm still looking for software to use. I'd prefer not to use audacity because of the security issues they had.
We have access to a PC and an Ipad Air and a variety of mics.
Ideally the other person and I would be able to work remotely through skype or discord app, although the majority of the time we would be in the same physical location.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the cheapest/ free software we can use?

I've been using mp3skyperecorder for recording for my podcast however I still use audacity for editing.
As well, Levelator is a great program as well. Though it requires you to export to a .wav file to process anything. Normally I will export as .wav then run it as it creates a separate output file and then convert that one to mp3.
Is that from voipcallrecording ? That was the first Google response I saw, but I've never worked with it before so you know, downloading random things from the internet, caution etc etc.
Levelator appears to be not getting supported anymore, but still available for download.

I use Audacity for recording in person, but my crew moved recently so I'm looking for a good remote solution. We've been using Zencastr the last few episodes, which is not a good remote solution.
I use Audition for editing, though. It's not free but it's extremely robust and easy to use.
audacity is mainly what i use for recording and editing
pretty much any recording software will be fine for recording though, garageband's good if that's installed on the ipads. the recording quality mainly comes down to using mics
for remote stuff i've had the most success with google hangouts, which will record a video of the call and then you can pull the audio out of that pretty easily. in general you wanna have each participant record locally whenever possible to ensure the highest level of sound quality from everyone, but if you're okay with minor losses in quality then hangouts or ifreeskyperecorder are really good solutions
audition is an extremely powerful piece of software, but it's a bit pricey at $25 a month
i think we looked into audition briefly, but it appeared as though there was no buy and own option only the subscription. is that accurate? if so then maybe down the line but i think that may not be feasible in the beginning.
going to have to check out those freeware skype recorders. as well as google hangouts. i did not realize that it inherently recorded everything.
we looked into zencastr, can you elaborate about what the issue was for remote recording @Astaereth ?
since we already have access to garage band is there any reason to look back into audacity? i had used it years ago, misplaced the installer and as i initially mentioned (And i recognize it is paranoia) the security breach over there has me concerned.
I was doing a college project where me and some colleagues had to do a voice over for a video presentation, we sued Skype and the Skype recorder, the results came out OK. I imagine it would be good enough for a podcast.

Yeah, sub only.

We've experienced a number of issues:
-The individual audio files have to be uploaded by each participant. If for some reason this doesn't happen immediately, it is sometimes impossible for the participants to go back and begin the upload.
-Because Zencastr gives you separate files, and because different computers have slightly different sample rates, your files will inevitable drift out of sync.
-I'm not sure if it's Zencastr or the headset I've been using, but I've experienced dropped words in my recording.
There have been some other minor issues but those are the big ones. Note that that's using their own VOIP, not using Zencastr to record a Skype call or whatever.
