Presidential Debate Number Two: I Don't Even Know What to Expect (Sunday 9 PM EST)

So It GoesSo It Goes We keep moving...Registered User regular
I had another OP, it is now obsolete.

I don't even know you guys.

The debate is town hall format, Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz are hosting it. They will ask half the questions, the audience of "undecideds" will ask the other half.

Look for it on all cable (Except NBC is airing the Packers?? lol) or youtube or whatever.

You should be able to watch it anywhere, but you should watch it with us!

COME CHAT WITH US IN DISCORD: https://discord.gg/kVcAutP

IN THIS THREAD

Please don't post pure reactions like "wow" or "Did he really say that" and such without providing context for your remark. Reaction posts like that are more fitting for the chat room. The thread will already be moving fast.

Likewise no tweet dumps unless you have some actual commentary to share.

Many different issues will come up during the debate, obviously, if you find yourself getting into the weeds of a policy discussion like the merits of charter schools please take it to PM or start a thread.

Thx for making the thread SIG

This is gonna be....pretty insane! I was in discord chat during the last two debates, but somehow I get the strange feeling that it's going to be zipping along at lightning speed and might stick with this thread this time around, bc it's more likely to be humanly achievable to follow.

I'm fairly certain I've watched every Presidential debate since 1992...maybe even since 1988. But this debate is shaping up to be so utterly vile that I don't think I can stomach watching it. I'm out, y'all.

The Trump plan seems to be to focus on two things:

    1) Juanita Broaderick
    2) Clinton being assigned to defend the alleged rapist of a 12 year old in court and doing her job

So that's going to be fun.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

This thing is going to be one for the record books. It will easily be the most watched in the nation's history. Even people who don't normally care about politics are going to tune in. Trump has managed the seemingly possible feat of turning a presidential election into honest-to-god reality television.

What a time to be alive.

  • No-QuarterNo-Quarter Nothing To Fear But Fear ItselfRegistered User regular
What's the story with Broaderick, exactly?

  • chrisnlchrisnl Registered User regular
She accused Bill Clinton of rape, recanted the story at some point (I believe in a deposition or something trial related at least), now claims she was threatened by Hillary to change her story.

You can't miss this. There may never be another televised spectacle quite like this ever again.

Literally half the bill of rights is dedicated to protecting the accused. It's appalling then that people will buy into attacks on defense attorneys for doing their job.

I'm not really sure there is any reasonable way for Trump to even bring up a line of attack against Clinton. I mean that won't stop him, of course, but a town hall format really doesn't lend itself to that sort of thing.

I mean, he somehow managed to bring it up during his "apology." I'm sure he'll find a way, no matter how tenuous the justification.

Oh yeah, I'm 99% certain he'll bring it up. It's just that there is no way to do it without looking like an absolute idiot. As I said, that won't stop him, but it really should. Then again if nothing up to this point has stopped him, I don't think anything I can think of will.

Bringing that up would be fucking awful for trump because of the equivalency it creates. It would be heard (correctly) as "well I may be a sexual predator but at least im not a child molester".

Here is a story on Juanita Broddrick just so people can be familiar if Trump brings it up.

Please do not litigate the whole thing in this thread, other than how Trump will attempt to use her in the debate

I think this is the first debate that should have a trigger warning.

My heart was broken after that poor woman on Fox News starting crying when she was talking about Trump sexually assaulting women and bragging he could get away with it because he's famous, since it seemed like she was reliving some really painful memories as she was talking.

If Trump goes after Hillary and Bill the way I think he will, he might dredge up painful memories for any women watching.

I weep for our country, and humanity.

I honestly am feeling ill leading up to this.

I've been feeling that way since Friday.

I'm not joyous or giddy or excited.

    I'm sad, I'm angry, and I'm heartsick.

And I'm not sure a crushig victory in this ebate, or in a month, is going to change that.

How do I look my daughter in the eyes and tell her that Mommy's neihbours back in the states thinks it's ok for a famous man to sexually assault her?

    How does anybody?

    So yeah, feeling very ill.

Isn't Trump awaiting trial on a similar charge? That seems like a really easy one to turn around on him.

The question I most want to see asked tonight is some variation of the following:

"Mr. Trump, following the revelations of the past two days, a number of Republican members of Congress have retracted their endorsements of you, including [people in tight races here]. What do you have to say to them and to the American people?"

I'm with ahava here... I have a hall pass again to watch this evening, but I honestly don't know if I will. It's just so...

Look, when Michael Chertoff endorses Hillary, you ought to pretty much draw a line under the discussion. As a Republican there's not much left to do but elect Hillary and pin your hopes on Paul Ryan's ability to ride herd on the worst excesses of her Presidency.

Paul Ryan isn't going to be able to do much as the minority leader. You should probably start preparing yourself for Speaker Pelosi.

Man, don't do that to me. One thing at a time here! I'm still accommodating to a Presidential vote for a Democrat for the first time since 1992.
