Booking airline tickets

Last year when I went to Oregon for Christmas, I paid $425 for the tickets a few months beforehand.

I'm going back this year from 12/23/07 to 01/06/08 and we're getting started early this time. I've looked around online and found tickets for $325. Should I book them now or will they get cheaper? In general, how long before the trip should one buy tickets in order to get the best deal?

As with anything, there are exceptions, but most folks will tell you that in most cases, airline tickets only get more expensive the longer you wait. Back me up here, people.

In MY experiences, booking during a heavy load time (aka Xmas, thanksgiving, holidays) very early in advance is much cheaper. Prices always fluctuate though.

As with so many other things, buying airplane tickets is a supply vs. demand thing. Aside from random seat sales, your odds of the price going down as your travel date approaches is slim considering that you're looking to travel during one of the busiest periods of the year.

I figured this was as cheap as it is going to get.

I'd be happy to hear more about booking during non-peak times though.

there's a website called http://www.farecast.com/ that will predict whether or not prices will go up on your airline slash if now is the time to buy your tickets etc.

also yahoo just put out a thing recently called farechase, which compares multiple airline tickets

also if you're a student (Like I am) I can get tickets for about 100 bucks cheaper (Houston to Philly) about a month in advance with statravel.com
