the Fantasy Costco one from the most recent episode is a contender
this is an incredible webzone.

to me
that image is funny for the same reason that image of Buscemi is funny

God, yes. That was some straight Oceans 11 shit. I actually hope Justin doesn't DM the next campaign, because he does such wonderful things with the rules as a player.
He seems violently opposed to the idea of him DMing, so it's not likely to happen
If anyone picks up the baton it's Travis
D&D lives and dies by its DM and I previously quit listening to a different D&D podcast because they changed to a new DM who was just awful
edit: I mean It's going to be a super hard act to follow because Griffin is actually incredible at DMing

I lasted two episodes into Nerd Poker after Sark left
There's already one episode where Travis is in charge and it's pretty good
Losing him as a player is probably more detrimental, because he's the one guy who really commits to the lore

but Griffin's world building, his Meta story is so so good, and the little things he does in every episode really make the game flow and feel real. Speaking as a DM myself, it's an incredibly hard thing to do to make the game fun to play and have good pacing AND be fun to listen to AND have a solid story structure

Well if someone hadn't been a very bad podboy
This was wise. I stuck around like 10 episodes.
not great
I really wanted to like Nerd Poker, but it never quite worked for me. The first campaign with Sark at the helm (if I recall correctly) had interesting elements but was so focused on big-picture stuff to which the players were little more than spectators. The classical "I have this awesome world and story and I'm going to drag these players through it no matter what" style of DMing. Whenever I tried to jump into later sessions it seemed far more focused on OOC comedy bits, with most of the players barely paying attention to the game.
It will be super interesting to see what Griffin brings as a player though, and also what kind of other characters Clint and Justin might make now that they've gotten a bit more familiar with roleplaying.
Yeah, at first I was thinking, what the heck Taako going to use that fo-oh, OH, OH NO GRIFFIN OH NOOOOOOOOOOO but it was too late and I couldn't save him.
Just that brief pause where it clicks in Griffin's mind just what Justin is doing and he knows he can't turn anything around without rule breaking or rail-roading is so great.
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor
My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!
I just got to the Eleventh Hour and I am very curious to see where this all goes. This second episode is one of the most intensely paced of the whole show so far
But the few times where you see a solution no one else does, or use a power in the way the gm wasn't expecting is really satisfying
And one of the cool things about roleplaying games
Yeah it's super satisfying to see the boys like, combine items they have and environmental objects and their character's abilities in unique ways. It's so common for D&D players to get stuck just shooting arrows because they see no other way to act.

If you like the idea for the dollop but want it to be about serial killers and star two women comedians
It's pretty good!
I have considered this but the premise seems kind of ghoulish
I mean it is
It probably depends on your stance on true crime as entertainment
You can always give it a shot and dip if it creeps you out
I'll try and find the names of some good ones
I mean you can argue The Wire, but that's complicated
I am 100% on team Ibex at this point. I'm sure I won't feel bad about it later at all.
I've been considering getting into it lately, but oh my gosh there are so many episodes and I only have so much time available for podcasts.

They are roughly an hour a piece. Some are a bit shorter and occasionally they run a tad longer, since you kind of want to wait for a natural stopping point with story-driven content, but an hour is a pretty decent average.

its actually usually pretty close to like 56 minutes, they are short for actual plays
