Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Where Karkand is the new Hoth

After a year of rumors, Call of Duty 4 is officially confirmed as a modern title, eschewing it's WWII roots.
Gamespot wrote:
For months, rumors have raged that the Call of Duty series would follow in the footsteps of Battlefield, its biggest rival in the military shooter genre, into the modern era of warfare. Today, the franchise's publisher, Activision, made it official. Developed by COD creators Infinity Ward, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will eschew the franchise's traditional World War II setting in favor of a fictional conflict set during contemporary times.

Unfortunately, the setting is about all that's known about COD4. No details--including platforms--were revealed to the press. Instead of issuing the typical press release, Activision has decided to unveil the game via a trailer that will be shown during the NFL Draft on ESPN at (10 a.m. PDT /1 p.m. EDT) this Saturday April 28.

Although Activision is holding back on the details of COD4, its announcement was not unexpected. This month, gamers were tipped off to the unveiling of something on developer Infinity Ward's Web site. The tease came just over a year after the first rumors about a modern-day Call of Duty first surfaced in the gaming press.

I, for one, can't wait. I fucking love Infinity Ward's work on CoD 1 and 2, and I can't imagine what they'll do for modern day warfare and weapons.

Discuss, while our frothing demand builds for a trailer.

Edit: Trailer is up.

    I predict the following:

    1. There will be at least one scene in which you drive in a HUMVEE and fire from the mounted gun.
    2. There will be a night mission.
    3. One of your allies will be english with a red beret.
    4. The enemies you're fighting will have a nickname like "Krauts" that will be yelled all over the place.
    5. Smashing someone's face in with the butt of your rifle does more damage than shooting him with 4 bullets.

about bleedin' time. Maybe we can finally get over the WW2 fixation that has gone on for too long. There have been plenty more wars that can be turned into a decent game.

Incidentally, i love the CoD games.

I loved COD2 on 360, but COD3 ran poorly at times, and I didn't care for the class setup.

I just love the M1 Garand. I'll miss it in COD4.

CoD 1 and 2 were made by Infinity Ward, and they are full of awesome and win. CoD : Finest Hour, CoD2 Big Red One, and CoD3 were made by Treyarch, and they are full of mediocre and meh.

I have lots of confidence in CoD4.

    O_o

I'd assume the focus would be on single player, with multi-player there to flesh it out. I also don't think it's meant to replace Battlefield, especially since Battlefield has never had a single player campaign worth speaking of.

Eh, I guess you're right. I just kinda jumped to conclusions there. But still, odds are this is going to go down against some kind of middle eastern coalition force.

It would be pretty awesome if they did something else though. Like, I dont know. modern war in europe? The US? Something that hasn't been done a thousand timers before?

4)I was told this was a de-huminzation thing. Soldiers for a long time were subtley taught not to see the enemy as people. So Russians are Reds, Germans are Krauts, The British were redcoats, The North were Yankees, Vietnamese are Charlies, and so on.

Maybe they could go an alternate history route with a modern day Soviet Union. They could have NATO and China fighting the Soviet Union.

Though it'll be far more likely we'll be fighting in the desert in CoD4.
