The Nintendo Switch is the latest system from Nintendo, the company that developed Mario Party and other games
It comes with a docking unit that does HDMI and power, a 6.2" tablet screen that is placed into the dock at home, but can be pulled out and taken on the go, with portions of the system's modular controller placed onto the sides of it
All the power for the system comes from the tablet, which will display at 720p, and it can be assumed that the docking unit will either upscale or render the games at 1080p on TVs
That's pretty much all the information there is about it, the rest will be announced on January 12th in advance of its release in March
That won't stop wild speculation, though, so have at it
Yeah the 11th. I was going to pre-order it but the pre-orders are sold out everywhere it looks like. Hopefully they'll be available in stores. At least by around Christmas.
So the 2DS got a price drop recently right? Down to 80 bucks? I'm gonna go find one of those so I can play monster hunter. I already played around with the N3DS that I got my girlfriend last Christmas and I don't need no extra nub or 3D effect to enjoy that game. And with BF around the corner I can hopefully buy a couple games for cheap.
I unironically look forward to Mario Party 11 on the Switch
Just take away the tram bullshit
Also I have been...toying with the idea for the past couple days of doing a blog in the near future focused entirely on games that are available for Nintendo systems

But what would you do after the second post?
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
Anybody know of a good deal on 3ds hardware at the moment? I know the 2ds is a good deal but it's for my niece and I think the clamshell thing is a better fit for her.

It's sort of surprising, but shouldn't be, that one of the secret characters in Wonderful 101 manages to be both a Viewtiful Joe and a Kamen Rider reference
I'm told his unmasked form is based on the original Kamen Rider, which is pretty cool—and his unlimited form's lower mask looks like a metal mouth??? I dunno if that references anything in particular; sentai teams do that sometimes right
Also his version of the Ukemi apparently causes an explosion
I'm trucking along. The game feels good on Hard Mode, like it's really opening up by throwing me up against higher concentrations of more difficult enemies and making me reconsider how I approach the smaller ones. Cool cool cool. When I beat Hard Mode I'll have Rodin....!
Man every time you post about Wonderful 101 it just makes me wish I was better at that game. Out of all the platinum character action games it's easily the one I'm the worst at, mostly due to the combination of the tiny characters and the camera angle, way too often I'll get smacked and not really be sure why I got hit. I realize that's more of a personal problem than the game's though. Still, I played the game for more than 30 hours and it enjoyed it all very much.
But now instead of playing it, whenever I get the urge to see more of it I'll just rewatch some episodes of Chip Cheezum's lp. He goes through goddamn everything in that game getting almost entirely pure platinum along the way. It's a joy to watch. It's also really fun seeing all the little tricks I missed in my playthroughs, because there are so many. The game is just stupid dense.
I just got into a fight in Neo Mu with a Geddy Doora, which are the panther dudes with the drill arms, right? And it was underwater, which is a bad place to fight those assholes
So I drop a bomb, then stun him with team attack, then wait for time dilation to end, then I start juggling him. Use Unite Hand in the Unite Rising, pound on him a bit, Unite Rising, then I give him a few Team Swords to hold him in the air while I drop to the floor
Now I still have a team attack on him, so when I hit him with Rising I do it from the top of his position, which knocks him even higher and... puts him above the surface of the water, which enemies treat like ground. Which means he can't get down. And he's like 200 feet above me. I try to shoot him with the gun but can't.
So I go over to the wall and Unite Build my way up the wall, and Green just climbs his big round self right up a ladder while a panther man is going insane on the surface of the water
Then he starts doing his underground attacks, which are only supposed to happen on the solid ground! So he's under the surface of the water but I can't see him, because he's underground, and he's shooting his drills up out of the water and I can't see them until they're coming up, and it's relaly hard to fight a panther man when you're swimming and he's walking
So I dropped a Unite Bomb and killed him with the Attack Liner
Pure Platinum for easily the stupidest battle I've ever had

Paper Mario Color Splash stands in a long tradition of good-to-great Intelligent Systems game that leave the taste of raw sewage in your mouth when you're done because of a broken-ass fucking final boss.
Black Paint Bowser wasn't hard, except for the fact that the boss hinges on you getting those stupid in-battle QTEs exactly right or you can just go fuck right off. Made me absolutely furious because some of those weren't intuitive to how you blocked similar enemy attacks (or similar attacks from the same fucking boss!). It's emblematic of the arbitrary bullshit that they put you through with every boss fight. It's a guessing game that gamers who actually value their time quickly defer to guides (yeah, the guy who tells you which Things you need is important, but he doesn't tell you how to deploy them which is as much of a guess as what you need, which the game often hits you on the head with anyway).
I've never liked QTEs in RPGs, and making a final boss that hinges on doing them right is just a big middle finger.

In my opinion, all the Mario RPGs after Paper Mario 1 and Superstar Saga have went WAY overboard with the action commands, to the point that I kind of don't like them.
My opinion is if you're going to do action commands, just go whole hog and make it an ARPG. I loves me some Monster Hunter, or in the case of this subject, Super Paper Mario which ran like an ARPG and was delightful.

black friday deals should be known sooner than later. usually there's a good bundle somewhere

And my opinion is action RPGs suck and action commands in a turn based system are way better.
so i'm getting real sick of juggling games around on my 3DS
you can slap any ol' SD card in there and it'll work, right? are there any weird limitations i should know before i go out and buy the biggest god dang card i can find?

it doesn't take higher than 32gb, but that should be plenty
GameStop didn't take preorders for it, so I suppose I could try my luck there on Friday, but I'm gonna hit up Target this week and ask if they're getting stock that's available on Friday to non-preorders
I was going to get it for my dad for christmas, but the incredibly short controller cables (a foot and a half at best) means it would be literally impossible to play that thing in our living room

Because if they instead decide to make something new that only works with the switch well... lol
They have mentioned nothing for the Switch besides it's portable

go to jail
Good lord is that a complicated ending
I think I preferred 999, overall, but I still dug it enough to stick with the trilogy.
I'm barely into Zero Time Dilemma, but I'm liking the central conceit, and loving "Junpei as embittered a-hole"
Overall criticism of this series - boy oh boy do I hate the """"""jokey""""" perv dialogue that pops up over and over again
Yeah! How could one not mention classic Nintendo properties like Cross the Road Froggy, Speedy Blue Dude, and Yellow Dot Eater.
There I fixed it.

Uuuugh yeah, that's awful. Even worse is C team's reset box scenario.
But what would you do after the second post?
there are 3 things in the game I really did not like and that is one of them
anyway a game called gurumin just got ported to the 3ds, it's an old falcom game that was originally on pc/psp. has anyone played it? it looks good
Write a few dozen more

On some level I feel like that means they know they're too short?
