Overwatch thread (also crwth drools, it's a real problem he's trying to address)

Yeah. Almost every match I bothered to watch was a stomp of some sort.
Maybe they should have had a rule where you get 3 "pros" and 3 personalities but every country might not have that.
I mean, yeah they did, but when some countries are just picking popular players and some countries are picking their very best pro players, it doesn't necessarily result in an entertaining end product.
Just get a little more control over that selection process, there's inherently going to be stomps in any Overwatch tourney sometimes but they can tweak things a bit to get more close matches.
Did not get potm
Then they had a leaver and we won because they all just left after a minute or two of waiting for him to come back
what they do for this in the future really depends on how OWL turns out
like the OWL championship is probably just going to be a better match in every way and I'm not sure what the world cup as it currently works is supposed to bring to the table once OWL is a thing
look
look
if it was a choice between goofy freerunner toe-shoes which parkour dorks actually do wear
and her having COMBAT HEELS which are a fucking plague on female video game characters
you know what, fine
but on other characters? no, absolutely not.
Ster was pretty quick to recognize how strong Ana is on her release, so I'm interested to hear what he thinks about Sombra in more depth
My Steam
just her hack ability alone is bonks, but her ult is totally crazy
I don't know if she's going to be on every team but I think she might mean that we see less of both 2-2-2 and 1-3-2 comps
possibly paving the way for more 3-1-2 comps, with characters that depends less on their cooldown abilities to do damage, like s76
also a lot less Lucio
Depending on what changes come out of the PTR I think Lucio will still stick around on two support comps; Zenyatta isn't a great replacement, and Mercy's viability is up in the air.
My Steam
I get it.
And it's also a pretty serious threat against the Volskaya CEO's daughter, so, y'know. There's that.

Zarya?
Also fuck yes Sombra's VA is at the UN of Overwatch panel. Gonna get her to sign the free Sombra poster they gave out at the dev signing.
Just "boop" on her nose.
winston and zarya also both tap stealth easily
secret fact: fire is delicious
when you barbecue you're just putting the fire into your food
The important thing is she still have enough downsides so she doesn't fall into must pick territory.
she doesn't seem especially high damage, that's for one thing
like she's big on CC/denials but she doesn't have any direct damage abilities beyond her paltry SMG which could be doing Tracer or sub-Tracer levels of DPS
so while she's great at being an annoyance she ain't killin shit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P37H8JzaEfw&feature=youtu.be
the threat is reputation-based
"boop" is more of a reminder of who's in charge. I'm gonna treat you like you treat kids
the information/privacy aspect does include her daughter, but it's more of a "wouldn't it be a shame if she knew what you were doing" than "wouldn't it be a shame if i just shot your kid", otherwise that probably would have been brought up a little more
she's not a good person, per se. she's trying to find out more about an illuminati-like power so that she can be the one pulling the strings. that's not... super altruistic. She absolutely will backstab and manipulate people to meet her own ends. she will murder people who are in her way. she is not a "good guy"
that said, her threat to the Voskaya CEO was one of pretty straightforward blackmail and shaming, not "I will literally murder your daughter". That Katya was concerned for her daughter is more because if this got out things would probably not go well for Katya or her family and/or the way her daughter looks at her, so I mean Sombra is still threatening to ruin her life which isn't good but is a bit different than literal threats of direct violence against someone's child.
people seeing Sombra's "boop" as flirtatious or playful or romantic are being a little bit much, it was "playful" in a way that was threatening, and Katya certainly was not happy about it. You can see some sexual energy on it if you want, buuuuuut if you think blackmail threats and making someone feel lesser by intimidation are sexy when they're clearly not into it maybe have a think about stuff and do some introspection.
Sombra is a cool character in that she's a cool villain. It's okay to think villains are cool. It's also a bit of a reach to allege she's a child murderess. At the same time, people on the tumblrs trying to make it sound like the whole thing was her elaborate way to get Katya's number are also going too far.
she works for Talon
she's almost definitely killed at least one child
Granting you that I am now stretching in the defense of my theory:
Infosec types like Sombra know better than to make records of their own misdeeds, and that panic room is probably bugged by at least three separate factions by now. If ever they have need to prove that Sombra was involved in that attack on Volskaya, they'd have to do so with a recording that states her case against the CEO. What they do not have is any clear record of Sombra making a threat of violence against the CEO. Just the word "boop!" It does not have to be in so many words "Incidentally, I could also kill your daughter if I wanted to; I know where she is and if you move her I can find her." But it does prove that Sombra is aware of the intimate details of the CEO's home life and is willing to involve them in the negotiations. That constitutes a pretty significant threat, I feel.

It is okay to simultaneously think Sombra is maybe queer and her "boop" was playful and flirty and there was a sexual energy to her interaction with Katya
and to also recognise that was, y'know, blackmail and not her trying to get in Katya's pants, and that using sexual energy as part of a demonstration of power is totally normal behaviour for villains.
and that it's pretty not okay to imply that blackmail is a normal way to initiate a relationship or be all sexy flirty with someone, it's an abusive power dynamic if you do that.
This is a "drink the sand" problem. Fans are so thirsty for queer characters and queer relationships they're willing to drink the sand, even if the mirage is harmful.
There's so many interesting possibilities for how her kit could interact with team strats, really interested to see what happens
She could definitely be a big part of a dive comp, have her sneak in, hack an ana or just ult the enemy team, and then winston and genji/tracer come diving in a moment later. Put the Zarya bubble on her and have her dive-hack the enemy Reinhardt, or even escort her in with a defense matrix'ing D.Va. D.Va and Sombra could pair really well in general together.
I actually think there could be a strong role for Torb as a counter to Sombra - she can't hack your healers if they're standing next to a turret (can still EMP tho) and Torb's armor packs (esp with passive armor regeneration) could really cancel out her primary fire. Sure she can hack the turret, but it's a long cooldown, it's a worthwhile trade for the other team. Even turret mode Bastion could be a counter on defense - he doesn't give a fuck about getting hacked once he's a turret, he just shoots things. And Sombra has no nuke like Tracer does to catch him with.
It also opens up space for Pharah as a counter pick - she doesn't care about Sombra's vertical mobility, has good visibility up high to spot Pharah, can stay out of range of Sombra's SMG and hack, and her splash damage can stop sombra from getting easy stealth escapes. Plus then you can go Pharmercy and give your mercy a constant escape option. Granted an EMP could result in Pharah plummeting into a pit.
She "works for" Talon as a means to get what she actually wants. Our first look into her day job involved her sabotaging the mission in order to go after her real goal.
On the other hand, there's no way she sabotages every mission, or Talon would never trust her. Also, our first look into her day job involved her murdering four people in order to go after her real goal.
Sombra doesn't give a shit about Talon, but she also doesn't give a shit about stopping Talon.
Steel Trap on a likely Sombra route, fill another with a steady stream of grenades.
Steel trap & mine on a translocator exit
I wonder how her stealth interacts with Orb of Discord.
Sure you're invisible! But I have a magatama icon over your head.
