Episode 37
I'm not comparing him to Hansan because that wouldn't be remotely fair, but I really like this Byrnes kid. He seems like a nice boy and I hope things work out with him and Misaki because she deserves someone nice after Hikaru went all moody youth on her.
And the kid ain't got even a single idea what krumping is
Hey, for all we know he is in fact an expert krumper. They only ever show the one dance rehearsal, and it didn't seem too far-fetched to think that maybe just maybe he could krump if he wanted to.

I just paused 3 contestants into the announcement of the winners of Momoka's ballet competition because the tension is agonizing
edit: Episode 38
Sixth out of 150 contestants is damn impressive but short of the 3rd or higher she said she needed. That's got to be worse than if she didn't place at all because then she could have a clean break, while this is close enough for her to wonder if it could have gone differently/if she still has a faint hope
double-edit
oh shit she made it anyway woooooo
girl can go into acting once she's done with ballet because she had me and all of the housemates fooled acting all frustrated and depressed until she dropped the good news
They all watched Arisa reject Arman, then he went upstairs to get rejected a second (and I assume final) time and MY BOY I JUST WANT TO HUG HIM AND TELL HIM THINGS WILL BE OK.

dang, I almost get the feeling that the show's producers specifically picked Masako to try and play matchmaker for Arman
cute, athletic girl who's primary goal is to be happy?
I really hope she gets over her initial impression of Hayato and gives my boy Arman a chance

edit:
Byrnes buddy why are you doing this to yourself? Watching the episode with her ex rejecting her the day before your big date? I get the taking her to Yokohama thing, show her that it's not the place that matters but the person, but why do you want to watch that?
to see what her bad memories were and try to turn them into good ones. He's pretty skilled at turning good intentions into slightly awkward results, like his "surprise" with the license.

Yeah that's what I got from that
He's a sweet sweet boy and I can't help but ascribe the best of intentions to that scene
And I also can't help but relate to his clunky, well-meaning approach to romance. Byrnes is best boy in my heart for that reason.

oh I'm sure his intentions are pure because he is a nice, nice boy
that just seems like it's gonna mess with his own head unnecessarily
It's just a cute nickname or term of endearment, especially with her being an idol. If any of you played Persona 4, you might remember Rise's replacement was Kanamin on stage. Same deal.

Hikaru. Arman just sinking to the bottom of the pool and sitting there was the saddest thing.
Arman is everyone's best friend. Everyone's.
Nothing. Matters.

I'm on episode 42 and Misaki/Tamochan is becoming one of my favourite housemates. She's really grown a lot on the show, and seems like she learned the best lessons from both Natsumi and Hansan. She can be devastatingly direct when making sure a new guy is suitable for her little sister, (well, she tried) but knows when to reign that in when the feelings of people she cares for are at risk.

Hayato you miserable cowardly fuckboy, you're supposedly the goddamn adult and you're letting Riko do all the talking when you get called on your bullshit?
I'm only on Ep 26 and agree with everyone that this show is just great. I normally can't stand reality television but for some reason this is incredibly compelling. Mizuki was my favourite so was very sad when she left. I like that there are changes in the house though, new people makes the formula refreshing.

The moment where Martha got back from her trip having missed everything going down and was just sitting in between Yuuki, Misaki, and Riko in the middle of the most awkward of silences was just incredible and agonizing.
But at least she learned that the guy she thought she liked was actually Fuckboy Supreme, paving the way for her to hopefully give my boy Arman a chance
Arman and Martha! 'Bout damn time my boy had some luck. Although, 'Arman interrupted by loud public transport while trying to confess feelings' was a nice little bit there.

Fuck yeah, Riko! Leaving Hayato bereft.

And that's it. Gonna miss most of those kids, but now that I'm done I let myself check them out on social media a bit. Not everything turned out as well as I hoped, but it looks like there's some happy continuations in there, but the most important development came from Mizuki's twitter:

Final Housemate Rankings, all series spoilers
17. Hayato Terashima - AKA Fuckboy Supreme, Hayato was the worst part of the worst couple. The age difference between him and Riko didn't seem to bother anyone on the show (including Riko's mom) so I guess that's normal over there, but even then he still sucks. Hiding the relationship would have been fine as well, but they should have done a better job of it rather than putting their housemates in an awkward spot and lying to everyone. Hell, if they really wanted to be together but didn't want it to be on TV they could have left the damn show. But the really shitty thing that earns him the bottom spot is the way he just sat there and left Riko to answer for their bullshit on her own.
16. Makoto Hasegawa - I try to have some empathy for these kids because navigating relationship stuff is tricky enough without having your mistakes televised, but Makoto's going behind Uchi's back to try and score points with Yuriko was shitty, same with telling Yuriko that he was no longer interested in Minori and then telling Minori that he didn't really mean that. He tried to play every girl, and I couldn't help but notice that his top pick seemed to change to whoever he thought Uchi was interested in.
15. Riko Nagai - I'm not ranking Riko as low as Hayato for a few reasons, but what they did was still dumb as heck and their drama came at the expense of getting to watch characters I actually liked. Bonus points for being the more mature one in the aftermath of their relationship despite being 11 years younger.
14. Hikaru Ota - Hikaru got a last-minute bump when I saw how sad Arman was to see him go. I didn't care for how he handled dumping Misaki, but at the same time he seemed genuine when he talked to the other guys about not knowing how to handle the situation because they still had to live together. He was a grumpy youth who mishandled a sensitive situation, but I don't think he was deliberately malicious at all.
13. Yuriko Hayata - Yuriko was alright, I guess? I don't think she deliberately used Yuki the way the more cynical commentators suggested but she was definitely thoughtless. He was in third place behind her ex and Makoto (what the hell, girl) and she still had him take her out on a fancy-ass date to Blue Note.
12. Arisa Ohata - Arisa may be a bit lower than is fair on account of me being bitter towards her for blocking the chance of an Arman/Mizuki romance, but whatever, it's my list. I also didn't care for how she handled turning Arman down, it seemed like she kept stringing him along longer than was fair.
11. Momoka Mitsunaga - Momoka seemed like a nice girl but she was just barely there.
10. Minori Nakada - These next two placed lower than I expected. Nice kids, but their communication skills were sorely lacking. Minori places lower because the Meat Crimes were pretty dang thoughtless. I'm glad they worked things out in the end.
9. Tatsuya Uchihara - the other half of the awkward ducklings couple, Uchi is a nice boy who really needed to learn to talk to people instead of bottling everything up. He made the best first impression of the boys, but things soured a bit near the end, especially when he lectured Arman about letting Natsumi help him cook.
8. Yuki Adachi - Yuki's a cool, passionate guy who got a bit carried away at his birthday dinner, and his attempt to ask Arisa out was one of the most painfully awkward bits on the show. Still, he was a rad guy who was there for his housemates and who handled Yuriko's clueless rejection more gracefully than I ever could have.
7. Natsumi Saito - The night of the Meat Crime, only one housemate present didn't take part, because I think Natsumi knew it was wrong. For all that she was blunt and at times thoughtless in her speech, Natsumi was also the housemate most likely to tackle a problem directly instead of avoiding the issue.
6. Masako Endo - I wish we'd had more time with Martha because she does seem really cool. I'm glad she eventually gave Arman a chance, even if she did spend way too long crushing on the garbage trashboy. Once I finished the show I did some checking on social media and it looks like Masako and Arman are still together (and may be the only couple from the show that is.
5. Mizuki Shida - the best of the original 6 by far, I really wish she could have stuck around longer. She seemed like one of the best people to hang out with, and the night she stormed into the boys' room to call Makoto on his bullshit was the moment the show had me hooked.
4. Misaki Tamori - I think more than anyone else Misaki grew a lot on the show, and I was surprised by how much I liked her at the end. She managed to turn Hikaru's rejection into a positive thing, and ended up reminding me a lot of Minori's sister Kurumi towards the end. She could use direct honesty like a weapon as well as Natsumi, but had the empathy to use those powers only for good, like making Hayato cry like a baby at dinner.
3. Yuuki Byrnes - Timing-wise, Yuuki may have been a replacement for Hansan, but in reality, he was a replacement for Hikaru. I appreciate him for how he treated Misaki, and for how worried and broken up he was after Arman's accident, but I admire him for how he handled Hayato and Riko's bullshit. He tried really, really hard to give Hayato a chance to end things gracefully without exposing them. Remember that conversation in the TV room, where he was like "you say you can't see her as a woman or a potential girlfriend, if that's true you need to tell her that directly and stop going on dates with her" that Hayato brushed off? Yuuki knew damn well what was really going on and hoped they'd stop without needing to be called out on it, and that was him giving Hayato one last chance.
2. Yuto Handa - the legend. Placing my top 2 was incredibly difficult, because they're both the best. Hansan's defining moment for me came when Arisa was stressing out about her exhibition and Handa was like "it's cool, I've already got something designed we can use, this will be fun". Hansan was the house dad, and while I think the ganging up on Natsumi after she got drunk and snippy with Misaki was a bit overboard, I also understand his frustration because Natsumi came to him for advice, thanked him for it, and then turned around and did the same thing again.
1. Arman Bitaraf - there are a couple people on this list who place higher than they otherwise would have entirely because of their relationship with Arman. He was the kindest, most thoughtful dude through the whole series, always there to help out anyone else. He got a lot of crap for being unmotivated by Japanese standards, but he used his free time to help Hansan with his work, Arisa with the setup for her exhibition, etc. Even Momoka, who was uncomfortable just sitting in the living room with Hayato (good instincts, girl) was able to relax and have fun with Arman.
And that's it. Gonna miss most of those kids, but now that I'm done I let myself check them out on social media a bit. Not everything turned out as well as I hoped, but it looks like there's some happy continuations in there, but the most important development came from Mizuki's twitter:
I saw her Instagram recently, and Mizuku is as adorable as ever. I just don't understand the guys on that show.

Anyone know what's the name of the song that is played in episodes 37, 38, and 40? It sounds like Prince, but a recent song, and my Google lyrics searching hasn't resulted in anything.
I don't want Hansan to go. I want him to stay and be an older brother for everyone forever.
Like, his words to Arman after cleaning the pool? Probably the best scene of the entire show so far. Like, people kept trying to get on Arman's case for not really working hard by Japanese standards, but Hansan was totally into everything about Arman.
Hell, they didn't even do a traditional ending - they rolled the credits with no music and then went back to the commentators to say bye to Hansan one last time. I'm gonna miss him. Now let's see how Byrnes does.

Well it definitely takes place at Asakusa Shrine in Downtown Tokyo. I recognized it from when we visited on our honeymoon. The Hozomon Gate is pretty easy to recognize
There are a bunch of festivals at Asakusa throughout the year, but this is probably Sanja Matsuri, the biggest one. It involves a whole bunch of Mikoshi like the one Arman helps to carry.

What does the -pin suffix mean?
Really? Shoot. I watched too many in a short period of time...
It happens to all of us
It's a variation of chan, more often used for very young girls.
Also important to note - Riko refers to herself in third person, which is also a thing that usually only young girls do.
She's leaning hard on the young cute girl thing.
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
