I'll go ahead and nominate Duelyst (PC, 2016) if that's alright.

@Unco-ordinated : A few of those MCC discussed in the first post.

N++, Volume and Oddworld missed out on previous years. Should we keep them? Is the HD release of Oddworld actually a new game (I think we discussed this last year actually and we may have decided to remove it).

I'm happy to go with whatever the consensus is. I'll get the rest removed in my lunch break and add the traditionally obscure list that only @sergiocornaga will vote for

Point taken with N++, I forgot mcc mentioned it.

But Volume and Oddworld were on previous lists, Oddworld in 2014 (which I'm guessing is where the confusion comes from):

    And Volume in 2015:
    http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/202645/goty-2015-poll-nominations-done-voting-thread-up-shortly/p1

They were both on my lists (though I didn't end up voting in 2015), so I knew I would've nominated them.

Just a heads up that I added a few more entries to my list. One nomination, Solomon Dark, is technically unfinished and was released as free abandonware a little over a month ago... it's now only available as scattered download links. Add at your own discretion!

Do games in Early Access not count until officially released?

I'm just wondering if Astroneer should be added to this year's list or not.

Updated at last, I've had a week of buying Christmas presents and being 'merry' at Christmas celebrations. Winding down now so have had time to update the list.

Looking forward to getting Last Guardian played at Christmas (if I've been a good boy and Santa brings it) to see where it ranks.

Just see my post below instead.

Thanks @Mr_Grinch! I'm afraid I added a couple to my list before seeing you'd already updated, if I recall correctly they were Until I Have You (PC) and Google Earth VR (HTCVive)*. I think that was it, anyway, do you remember the total length of my list when you copied it?

EDIT: I added a few more suggestions, many from this list. Beasts of Balance requires a set of physical items to play, and The Ice-Bound Concordance incorporates a physical book. I don't know if the platforms listed should take account of this.

The bottom entry on my list unfortunately uses a hamster emoji as a title, and this post breaks if I try to paste it in... ideally it would use the emoji on the voting website, but I wouldn't be surprised if issues occur. The game is tentatively on my top 20 list, though...

Another potential nomination is Radiator 2 (PC). It's an anthology, and two of the included games (Succulent and Stick Shift) were listed for the 2015 poll (though neither received enough votes to place) while Hurt Me Plenty missed out. These games appear remastered and recontextualised, and I imagine releasing on Steam means a lot of people were introduced to the games in 2016. Maybe it's enough of an edge case to warrant listing? I'd welcome opinions on this matter.

EDIT 2: Added more to the list. Notes:

    * Added Radiator 2 to the list above for now.
    * Added Glittermitten Grove, which... I guess... shouldn't be referred to using its other... more... well-known... title...
    * Included Google Earth VR and Tilt Brush, both of which I include reluctantly, but have seen appear on multiple GOTY lists. Discussion encouraged!
    * The full title of Into (PC) is "Into, or, I Turned My Autobiography Into a Fictional Second-Person Surreal Coming-Out-Of-Age Dramedy and Now My Life Is Happier" but I figure this is another Ladykiller in a Bind situation.

Lastly, suggested corrections to existing nominations:
    * Dead Secret (OculusRift) should be Dead Secret (HTCVive,OculusRift,PC)... also, I could have sworn it came out last year and was on that list, but I think my mind is playing tricks on me.
    * SteamWorld Heist HD (PC,PS4,PSVita) should probably be removed, even though when it was on last year's list it had just come out and was only on 3DS.

EDIT 3: Added nominations from Warp Door. Ancient Legends (PC) is actually for the Apple II, but I don't think that warrants its own platform. Also, I have actually made many, many more than 3 edits to this post.

There's a lot of VR games missing, would you like me to collate and add a bunch? Basically 90% of the current crop can be added unless ported, but I'm not sure if you feel the value in doing so exhaustively, since so few will vote for them.

That said, literally my entire list this year would be VR games, so it might be nice to include.

I think Frog Fractions 2 should be its own entry, personally.

Glittermitten Grove is a game in itself that has merit on its own standing. Frog Fractions 2 wasn't in it until, i think 2 weeks after launch.

Many of those are already on the list, many others are early access titles we'd typically exclude until their official release. I hastily went through the entire list, and I think this is a version of it that's been stripped down to just what we need to add:
    Damaged Core (OculusRift)
    Dragon Front (OculusRift, Mobile)
    Onward (HTCVive, OculusRift)
    The Brookhaven Experiment (HTCVive, OculusRift)

Good point, it was even made by separate developers. However, it's a little harder for me to separate FF2 out into its own entity since elements of GG recur in it. There's also the matter of what the title of FF2 actually is, I've read that the credits refer to it as FF3. There are other compilation entries on the list, so I feel like it wouldn't be too bad to consolidate them into a single entry?

I updated Glittermitter Grove on my huge list above to say 'Glittermitten Grove / Frog Fractions 2 (PC)'. While this could be considered a spoiler, I feel like it's the least alienating way to include both entries on the list, since I think encountering each separately in the poll itself could prove confusing to someone who hasn't been following this discussion? IIRC, in 2007 we listed all of the Orange Box games seperately, so I think it'd be okay to d so here. Also, it'll be funny to have people go "Wait... frog fractions 2 came out this year?"

i feel they should be listed entirely separately.

Glittermitten Grove is a resource management / city building sim.

Frog Fractions 2 is....... Frog Fractons 2.

Even if both games come together, they can and should be considered separate and rated as such.

Like Undead Scottsman said, it'd be like having Team Fortress 2 and Portal 1 as a single entry.

Alright, my list now has Frog Fractions 2 and Glittermitten Grove as separate entries. Since we're on the topic, I'm really interested in opinions on whether I should break up any of the other compilation nominees I mentioned. I've had a particular change of heart about Ambient Mixtape 16, perhaps it ought to be 9 different games instead of 1 convenient package, especially since one of the games within (t- e ni hтm-are of·`a c ty) has appeared on a couple of GOTY lists in isolation from the others. Likewise, Triennale Game Collection might be distributed as a single application, but it definitely includes five distinct games. Maybe it should be five nominees! On the other hand, splitting Experiment 26 into 26 separate entries seems like it would please no one, and frankly I doubt anybody will vote for it either way.

EDIT: Just added The Jackbox Party Pack 3 to my list. Does that warrant breaking up into separate games? Also, looks like Kill Screen decided that Triennale Game Collection is one game.

If it were up to me I would say Glittermitten Grove and FF2 should be treated as the same game. They were intended by the designer to be seen as "the same thing". I haven't had the chance to play either.

Team Fortress 2 and Portal 1 were conceived, designed, and released as separate games. They just at some point happened to get released as a compilation. Experiment 26 on the other hand was intended to be released and experienced as a unit.

That may not actually be the case, though. The quote below (source) gives me a different impression:
    Kotaku wrote: »
As the ARG was happening, Crawford also hatched the plan to put Frog Fractions 2 inside another game. He chose Glittermitten Grove, a game in development by fellow developer and friend Craig Timpany. Together, they pitched the idea to publisher Adult Swim. “It was a game that Craig wanted to make,” said Crawford. “I thought it sounded cool. It’s his passion project. We pitched it to them and they agreed, with the knowledge that Frog Fractions 2 is inside of it.” Crawford’s Kickstarter paid for Frog Fractions 2. Adult Swim paid for Glittermitten Grove.

I also discovered today that SUPERHOT and SUPERHOT VR are distinct games and should possibly both be on the list. I haven't played either though, so maybe somebody who's played both can tell me if they're not different enough to warrant it. After all, we're treating Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon as the same game (as we do every time with Pokémon).

    New:
The Banner Saga 2 (PC, Mobile, XBO, PS4) - Actually a new game. Needs to be re-added.
I Am Setsuna (PC, PS4, PSVita) - Ditto.
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan (PC)

-Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is also non-VR on the PC, so it should have that added.

-God Eater: Resurrection and God Eater 2: Rage Burst are ports, so they should be removed.

-I think Plague, Inc: Evolved is also a rerelease? Not sure.

-Frog Fractions 2 is such a weird thing that I don't even know what to do with it. I think I lean towards keeping it merged with Glittermitten Grove. We could list it separately with the ARG if we were feeling crazy. We did put Salty Bet on the list that one year, and that was a good call.

-Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is also non-VR on the PC, so it should have that added.
It came out in 2015 and placed 48th on last year's list.
You know, you're right. It should be removed entirely, then. The VR release is the same game.

D'oh, you're right, I was looking at the wrong list and I Am Setsuna does need to be readded. Apologies!

This made me re-check the list and Dragon Quest Builders has also been mistakenly deleted, @Mr_Grinch. You removed the wrong Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest VII is the one you want to get rid of.

Man am I glad I spotted that.

Why are we getting rid of Dragon Quest 7? Because it's a remake?

My take was that despite the graphical upgrade, it stuck extremely close to the original, so I considered it a re-release but I guess you could argue that it should count as a new release. It's the first time the game has even come out in PAL countries (VIII was the first DQ we got), so I'd be fine with its inclusion even though I didn't buy or play it.
