I've seen all 13 episodes of the Hellsing anime series. I enjoyed them very much, and am currently reading the manga, but when I was looking for the boxed anime set online I stumbled upon OVAs being released as "Hellsing Ultimate Edition". The descriptions are basically the same as the original DVDs. There are 2 out already, with more on the way, so here are my questions.
1) What is it, and how is it different from the original anime. (is it a re-make a sequel a new telling of the first story?)
2) Is it good, is it worthing buying instead of/in addition to the original boxed set.

Point 1. You could have just asked in the D&D anime thread, but, meh.

    Point 2. Ultimate :p

Anywho, the Hellsing Ultimate series is basically the manga in visual sex form. The TV series goes off and does it's own thing after the assault of those two fake vampires on the Hellsing organization.

The OVA's follow the manga after that point. Which begins at the end of episode 2/all of the rest.
    Vampires Vs. Nazi's

Totally worth getting. It has the manga's humor+insano Ceres.

There is no choice but to buy this

It's a remake, following the manga (no Incognito, more Nazi-Vampirism) closer. The order parts of the story take place is a bit different.

I bought the 1st one, and even though it's closer to the manga, It wasn't as good as the 13 episodes. I mean, both have their pros and cons, but Ultimate box 1 tried to go through the story too fast. Also the Hellsing Ultimate 1 didn't have as good dub casting (Crispin Freeman still does Alucard's voice) or music as the 13 episode set.

I woulda just waited for a few more to come out and see if they covered anything more fun, like the Tubalcain Alhambra fight. Because since I already own the 13 set, Ultimate 1 was a bit of a rip.

This is slightly unrelated, but how many OVAs are there?

Id guess 7 if they followed the manga.
Edit: Who's voice actors changed in the new edition? (Wikipedia is showing the same cast.

Yea, like the other guys said it is more true to the original Hellsing manga, which I discovered to be one of the most badass things ever written. Basically world war 3 with the vatican, Hellsing organization, and nazi zombies/werewolves.

I don't think they've gotten to the more crazy/badass fight portions of the manga yet (which never made it into the original 13 eps) but I've been really impressed with the OVAs so far. The first two episodes basically repeat content that was already shown in the original series but with better animation and action sequences, but after that you start getting into new territory. If you like Hellsing the OVAs are totally worth checking out imho.
