Today marks the first day of Summer and we’re conjuring up a classic party theme for our next challenge: Tailgate Party. Stoke up the bonfire and grab new DLC, Coheed and Cambria “The Liars Club” and “Welcome Home”, this Thursday.
We’re celebrating the 4th of July with the Rivals Challenge: Backyard BBQ. You’ll be grillin’ and chillin’ with new DLC this week: @beastieboys “Fight For Your Right” and @PublicEnemyFTP ft. Anthrax “Bring Tha Noize”.
Get ready to make a splash this week at the Rivals Challenge: Pool Party. Catch some rays and dive into new DLC out Thursday: @machinegunkelly, YUNGBLUD & @travisbarker “I Think I’m OKAY” and @yungblud “The Funeral”.
You’ve grown a lot this season so it’s time to party in the Rivals Challenge: Sweet 16. New Rock Band DLC is straight from the Great White North: @carlyraejepsen “I Really Like You” and @tatemcrae “she’s all i wanna be”.
Love plastic guitar games in the past. Now with kids I think they'd love it too. I have a Xbox One and a PS4Pro. Any suggestions on which console I should get the game for?
Well there are a few factors to consider. 1) They haven't manufactured instruments for a while, so anything you buy will be from a reseller, so prices will vary based on demand. I'm not sure which version's instruments are in higher demand, but there is always the chance that one console might be more expensive than the other. 2) Do you have any of the old Rock Band stuff? If you have working instruments for the 360 or PS3, you should be able to use them in Rock Band 4. I am also pretty sure a fair amount of the old DLC can transfer over too.
Beyond that, I'm not aware of any real differences between the XBO and PS4 versions.
Yeah, it all comes down to (what can you find instruments for?) and (how many exports/how much DLC do you have from last gen?)
Only additions to the above info I’ll add are:
- All the DLC from the previous generation should move over in the new generation, with the exception of RBN songs. The licensing on those didn’t allow them to move, but a few of them have been re-released as “official” dlc, which you’d need to buy separately.
- The 360 instruments would require an adapter to work on Xbone. That legacy adapter is also hard to find/expensive from resellers.
I have it on PS4 and there's a glitch where it will pause for a 1/4 to 1/2 second and desynch the game. Every time it happens you have to restart the game and there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to when it does. It can happen after a couple of songs or it can not happen in an entire session. It's been in ever since RB4 originally came out and at this point I feel safe to say that they either can't figure out how to fix it or just don't care enough to fix it.
As far as I'm aware this isn't an issue with the game on any of the Xbox systems.
Xbox instruments tend to be easier to find as well. Though if you're looking at "new" the best case scenario is paying $400+ for an instrument that may or may not be new and decent odds the tilt sensor is some degree of borked just due to age.
The final challenge of Season 27 is here. The Rivals Challenge: Afterparty is an exclusive soiree. Your name is on the list - just be sure to bring your ID. Don’t miss the new DLC this week: @theblackkeys “Wild Child” and @ChiliPeppers “Black Summer”.
After a whole season of party crashing, we’d understand if you need a break. We’ll give you until Thursday to get your stamina back because @Architectsuk “when we were young” and @badomenscult “Just Pretend” are coming to the Rock Band Music Store.
It’s East Coast vs. West Coast this week with new DLC songs representing a taste of the California and Massachusetts music scenes. @Interruptweets “Anything Was Better” and @pottymouthworld
“Let Go” DLC is available this Thursday.
We virtually always need drums (and vocals) scores on the spotlight songs. Lacking them makes getting to Diamond a bit of a pain unless I sandbag at least a couple of weeks.
We're already at Diamond for this season so we're kinda done until the next one. We just don't have enough active people to realistically make a run at Bloodstone (since Rivals came out we've done it once and that was when week 8 fell over Christmas so we had a bunch of people playing when not many other people were)
They basically explained in chat that they're doing this because 1) the game is seven years old, and with the rise of digital only consoles they're trying to make it easier to get into the game 2) they believe Rivals is the ideal RB4 experience as it is, so everyone should have it.
They tried to get it so that you could get the digital version if you owned the disc version, but first party said no.
Right now it's gonna be very expensive. The only way to get into Rock Band on the cheap is get lucky at a thrift store or FB marketplace, or treat it as a karaoke game until the situation improves, since USB mics are cheap.
BTW, they were talking about the game continuing to get support on the Discord. People thought Epic might be just funding the DLC but they confirmed Rock Band DLC has to actually continue to sell to keep it getting new DLC, but DLC is selling well enough for Epic to continue approving updates and content for the game. The plan is to keep releasing DLC as long as it remains viable.
I also suspect Rivals is probably their biggest driver of DLC sales and discovery due to the challenges, so.. in a way it also makes sense to make Rivals finally free - give up making the money off the expansion and hope people spend even more on DLC.
The chip shortage will prevent any instruments, either way. It was even mentioned by Phil Spencer of Microsoft that he'd like to release a new GH right away after Activision is acquired but the chip shortage basically makes it impossible.
4 week season (everyone starts in Gold and has 4 weeks to make it to Bloodstone) . No season pass due to short season. 7 week break afterwards (so no Rivals from November 22nd , 2022 to January 15th, 2023). Weekly DLC will still be coming out.
Reason given is doing a bunch of backend work. Probably moving the server stuff into the Epic Games infrastructure, and investigating some recent issues.

Maybe they'll finally fix the glitch with the Playstation version of the game!
The game video will hiccup for anywhere from 0.2-1ish seconds. Once this happens the calibration is effectively off because everything you play from then on is off by that same interval until the game is closed and restarted.
The frustrating thing is it happens seemingly completely at random. It can be on the first song you play or it can never happen at all in a four hour session.
So uh, I found a glitch to enable a form of bass boost in Rock Band 4. People are already testing it out (turns out it works from the Quickplay menu, don't need to be in the Rivals song list)
It not only boosts Bass, it boosts any instrument you are playing. So guitar, bass, drums, vocals. works best with bass and drums though. Also, DIY songs get absolutely murdered, so I guess that truly confirms they probably didn't bring back Bass Boost because of DIY.
Note that so far it may be Xbox only. I don't have RB4 on PS but it may not have the same OS interaction with profiles so this might not be possible there.
I have an opportunity to buy two Guitar Hero guitars for Xbox One for $70/each. Would these guitars be compatible with Rock Band on the Series X? If so, what all would I need to do to get them working on the Series X?
I actually got it at launch due to the hype, and then played it only for a little bit, but did get to mess around with the online play (which is one of the modes that is getting shut down). It was pretty cool. Hopefully people can salvage it with tunneling software or something.
I bet making a game that got your Twitch or Youtube account shut down if you streamed it probably didn't help.
Fuser seemed, to me, like the kinda game you had to put a lot into to get anything out of. It wasn't immediately gratifying like Amplitude, Guitar Hero / Rock Band, or Beat Saber. I just didn't feel compelled to dig deeper into it.
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Rock Band get its sunset soon. Super sad. I don't know if we'll ever get a multiplayer experience like that again. It was something that brought together gamers and non-gamers. I still have the kit and loads of DLC, but no one really seems interested in jamming these days.
I had a full 4-player session this past weekend for several hours. It was glorious, but it's been years since the last and probably will be again. The game is plenty fun solo, but nothing compares to the in-person group experience.
Fully agree - Belasco and I rock out semi-regularly, gut it was just super awesome to have three-part vocals and a full band behind you. One of the most fun things I've ever done with a game, hands down.
We heard you about the Diamond Shop. We've created a new "Everything Must Go!" bundle that will unlock all Diamond Shop items for free. It's available in the Diamond Shop now. Note that this bundle will no longer be accessible after December 19.
If you’ve got Fuser, you have until it gets delisted to unlock all the Diamond Shop stuff for free.

@ff7007 thank you very much for this!

The expansion will unlock automatically upon launching the game, but you may still need to download the actual key to get the Rivals songs to show up.

There's also 3 free songs for the anniversary

But there's absolutely no way I'm going to risk having try and import my library again.
Doing that once using the PS store was enough for a lifetime.
Problem; I haven’t owned any instruments in like eight years and it seems like a real PitA to acquire any.
What would it take to get a set of working stuff on the Xbox nowadays?
Xbox is cheaper due to being generally more available but probably still around $750-1000 for a full set depending on what you can find online

DLC isn't going to sell if the people who buy it can't reliably play the game anymore

someone did the glitch on drums. it sounds like the kit's actually in front of you lol
At one point I think I saw a Reddit post or something that amounted to “the fret buttons do work, but the strum doesn’t”
So essentially, if it was me, I wouldn’t spend the money on GH Live controllers with the intention of playing RB.

Was glancing at the achievements list and think quite a few are impossible for me to get now. So that sucks! D;
