I've started on something new and would enjoy hearing some general layout critique.

I'm worried it's either too crowded or that the hierarchy is off.

@bowen like move it? Make it bigger? It's definitely a key character trait haha.

Make it the entire focus of the picture and everything else smaller obviously.

Well one thing about the butt is that with the current placement of everything, it sort of reads like the face is a giant head attached to the butt and little arm.

    I get what you're saying.
I guess I could invert the trio so they are looking to the left and put it over there?

I'm also working on a new TAZ poster, I want to put a whole set together and maybe get one of those horney boys to notice it.
I had the concept for this one for a while but kept getting frustrated by how the sketches were coming out. This morning I just dove in and I'm kicking myself because I should have done it weeks ago.

Because I love to spin as many plates as possible, I'm also working on a logo for a new side project with some friends.

I used phi circles for all of them except one.

I think I'm getting closer. I didn't accidentally remake an existing logo did I? The whole thing looks vaguely familiar.

So I gave up on getting the full run done in time for christmas but I did get enough good one color runs to give out to my dnd group.

    7eZTXIQ.jpg

I think I'm going to have to tape off the black layer so that I don't have bounding box issues and I only have to worry about the lettering registration. I have no idea but I'm excited to get this one done and jump on the next one.

It felt really good to work on a personal project for the first time in a while. I was stuck on this where I knew what I wanted to do conceptually but I couldn't seem to make it work, I think I finally jumped that hurdle tonight and I can start moving toward finalizing it. While I want to include Garyl and the Battle Wagon in the composition, like I have them in the sketches earlier in the thread I don't want to ruin the direction I'm currently going. Maybe I can create them out of vines?

I made a new drying system for my garage. God I hope I got this registration thing figured out.

First run came out all right, still have about 20 to go.
Going to pull those tonight and figure out how many I have that are good enough for public consumption.

Little bit late on this one, but the ones in the lower right [e: I guess it's more just right] here appeal to me way more than the others for some reason. I'm not really sure why, but I just feel immediately more interested. I can come up with theories, like how it looks more like food on a plate or the angle of a brush/pencil (making it look more active), but all I've really got is my gut. I also really like the rough circle, and the extremely curly ampersands in the middle.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah I am inclined to agree on the grunge circle having a more action/impact, but the client and I thought it ended up looking too food related and she's doing tarot readings. I went back and changed up the mark to make it a little more arcane/symbolic (the triangle in the circle wasn't initially there).

Are you talking about the top middle ampersand or the bottom middle? either way I'm with you and now regretting the more clean one I went with.

It's done! I've already taken out the prints with unacceptable issues now I'm just weaning it down based off probably too high as standard. I'm thinking I'll end up with 40 30.

One thing I wanted to note is that the R looks a lot like an A, which could be a little confusing because paint is also a word.

It also feels like the outline changes when it's shrunk down to icon size; the top and bottom of the slot get a bit lost. I think maybe either embiggening the slot slightly might help? The lines on the edge of the coin also ~feel~ too thick to me; the white space feels like it's very cramped there. Maybe spacing the horizontal ones out a bit more would feel a little better?

(This is all to say that I think it's a neat logo and attracted my attention.)

Thanks for the crit Surf, I actually already exaggerated the R a bit but I get what you're saying.

I completely wrecked my emulsion pass last night. I'm pretty sure I overexposed the screen, I've never used a real exposure unit before so I had no idea on timing. I also had no idea how important it was to get/use an emulsion scoop to get an even coat. when I put it on, I stored it in such a way that it dripped into my flatfile.

    LEARNING!

    Nice!

My only two notes would be (not that I know shit about design, but here you go)

    1) I would give the "The Adventure Zone" some more breathing room from the vines. It doesn't look like it's intentionally overlapping them, so it is a lot of tangents/tension.

    2) I can't really tell what's going on. I see some seaweed stuff hanging down, and some stuff in the middle that looks like it's supposed to be something, but I can't make it out.

    Hope that helps!

This is pretty awesome. I like the colors and the creepy yet not-too-creepy vibe it gives off. I think the "The adventure zone presents" bit clashes too much though. Is it necessary? Could you move it to the bottom? Like, "petals to the metal:a production by the adventure zone"

@Marty81 Part of that at the top is that each of the (eventual) 7 posters will have that in the same place as a unifying mark.

Although most of the Boy's opinions on fan art and such have discouraged me from continuing the project.
