The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Bandai Namco put out this teaser the other day with the hashtag Prepare to Dine at the end: https://youtu.be/7iG9SKJaa_M Based on the content, seems like it's going to be a Soulsborne with vampires, perhaps? The art style is radically different. Looks like a Dishonored-meets-Bloodborne aesthetic.
Either way, it's nice to see a new IP. It didn't specifically state that it was FROM, but with that hashtag, I'd imagine it is.
This is not a FROM project, but rather from the God Eater team. Development is only about 35% complete, 2018 targeted launch. Official announcement trailer coming 4/20, with a gameplay reveal some time in May.

Ah this must be the "weird thing" they mentioned they were working on along with Armored Core.
Certainly lives up to the comment.
In addition to the new, untitled Armored Core game, From Software is working on a project that Miyazaki described as "a little weird." When asked if he meant the game is weird or if it's weird based on what From Software made before, Miyazaki answered that the game's genre is what's weird.
"When I say 'weird,' the genre might be a little weird," he explained. "The game is weird. But we are diligently making it in all seriousness, so I just want people to know that when they think it's strange."
Excited to see more, though I doubt it'll be like Souls. Miyazaki has said he's done with it, but that others are free to continue so I doubt he'd start a project that was similar to Souls.
Axen on
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
If it isn't a souls like cooking game, then fuck 'em.
And your special ingredient... DRAGON's HEART!
"Oh, that's going to be tough one, Dave. The dragon's heart gives out a lot of heat, it'll be very easy to ruin your meal by having your blood overcook."
"Indeed, Steve. It seems like the contestants will need to take a trip to the Temple of Everfrozen Giants to find some ice boar tusks to provide that essential cooling element. There's a lot of enemies on the way, so it'll also be a good time to stock up on the basics, like blood and eyeballs."
Until this moment, I never realized how much I wanted a cooking game combined with Monster Hunter.
MC: "Our contestants will have three days to prepare their meals!"
Contestant A: "Wait- three days? Isn't that a little much?"
MC: "Not when you have to track and kill your meat! Find and process your spices! And also pick and prepare your vegetables!"
-smash cut to the contestants being kicked out of an airship over monster island-
God damn, now I wanna play this too.

Oh hey, so it's even better than what people thought it was going to be. Actual reveal on the 20'th, but it's called Code Vein and it's the new game by the God Eater team.
I can't help but feel like it's a tremendously shitty move to play on people's emotions with such a charged tagline as "Prepare to Dine". Like, I can appreciate the pun as much as anyone but come on, Bamco, that shit means something to a lot of people.

Oh man, what I assume will be God Eater-esque combat plus a heavy focus on exploration?
Hnnnnnnng
God Eater Devs alone is enough to warrant a day one purchase for me.
Art style does look slick as all get out.

Agreed on all art fronts. Lemme see that gameplay, then we'll talk. Bollocks on them for using a Dark Souls-y slogan and it not being related to Souls related though.
The little bit of gameplay they have in there is basically "hey look we have the dark souls roll" which is a little disappointing. I was personally hoping for something a little more character-actiony and a little less souls.
There's a demo out! And release is in a couple weeks?
The demo is brief but does a decent job of showing that "yes, this is anime as fuck" and lets you mess around with a wide array of weapons and abilities.
Controls are a bit busy, or at least busier than a From-Souls game, as there's a much greater emphasis on "active abilities" on top of the traditional Soulsborne combat elements (i.e. light/heavy attack, defend, parry, dodge, & D-pad for item usage).
Leveling up is weirdly simplified, as you literally just spend EXP McGuffins to gain levels in every increasing increments. I couldn't tell if leveling did anything beyond increase HP/Stamina values. It seems your stats are governed by the interplay between "Blood Code" (which is like a Job/Class) and your equipped "Blood Veil", which is your armor that doubles as umm... a thing that can parry and absorb blood? I dunno.
Each Blood Code lets you acquire new abilities, which you can then master in order to use with any other equipped Blood Code. You have 4 Passive slots and 8 Active slots, so there should be some fun building your ideal Class.
I think I'll likely pass on this until a sale, but it could definitely be a much stronger game than I expected based on its seemingly troubled development.
I think the game is PS4-exclusive for the time being? That's where the demo is, at least.
It's not a console exclusive, that much is for sure. I literally only know about this game because it was revealed at Microsoft's E3 keynote...two years ago? Or more? If there was anything before than, it's news to me. The demo got headlined on the Xbox Store, I didn't know if it was available to PS4 (I'd be the wrong person to ask).
I mean, I'm trying to find the demo, but 'code vein' just turns up the base game and deluxe on my PS4, and there doesn't seem to be a subpage to download a demo...

I'm not sure demos are really searchable. But if you just go Games -> Demos, it'll be one of the top-listed options.

Also has the side benefit of meaning that we still get to expect something new from From as well!
Monster Hunter + Dungeon Meshi + Recettear + Iron Chef.
Anyway, I hope it's a new Nioh situation, where they take some ideas and actually make a good game out of it.

Never really cared enough about what I saw of God Eater to try it out, but this game looks real cool.
I dig the game's art style a lot.

They should put that on the box.

Bloodbone had both. Maybe this does too? I mean, God Eater has dodge dashes like Bloodborne.
