Apparently lots of the best characters that are available right now are, in Japan, rated as the best because of upgrade quests that will come way down the line, making actually figuring out who is good right now a little finicky
That said, 5*s just naturally have good-ass stats so it's not like you're gonna have a bad time no matter who you end up with if you go through the trouble of rerolling for one
There are technically better 5*s, but I don't particularly care. I just wanted someone other than Vlad II (who I got when I tried the JP version for a bit).
First roll got me Emiya and and Carmilla definitely keeping this

Loaded up FFXIV on PS4 just now to see what they've changed and welp

It's just because they upped the resolution.

As others said there are currently some semi-fixes right now(adjust the UI size up but makes nameplates a bit big) and they are working on patch to allow it to be adjusted better.
I had the UI at max size before the patch and it was still too small.
PC or PS4?
Because PS4 is where it changed.
On PC it's probably because you already had a resolution that makes it extra tiny but it's PC so your resolution wouldn't just change automatically from a patch like it would on PS4.

I had a really bad time with rerolls, but a friend of mine just got a really good one (Waver/Herc and a Kaleidoscope), so now I'm gonna snag one of the ones he previously got and had in limbo. Looking forward to actually playing this game in english after playing the japanese version for years. Even with an iffy translation, it's still good enough for me to figure out what characters are actually like, and what the hell is going on.
I guess anyone can feel free to ask me any questions about the game. Such as "Why is Robin Hood so awesome?", for example.

Any recommended Vita RPGs that aren't on the PS3/PS4 as well? I'm gonna be traveling this weekend and could use something new to play. I already picked up Shiren the Wanderer on the Mid-year sale, but I could use another.

One's got Vlad, Herc, and D'eon. One's got Arturia, Emiya, and Liz (I think, will have to double check that one when I get home). And one has just Waver and Liz.
All pretty solid accounts, but I was very adamant about starting with a Kaleidoscope. After completely failing to get one over two years of playing the japanese version.
I like Atelier Sophie a lot so far. I looked up ahead of time to make sure there was no time limits in it for the main quest stuff, and as a result it's just super chill. Feels like i'm simply running an alchemist's shop. Looking at my ingredients on-hand, thinking about what would work best for these potions or foods, then grabbing my bodyguards and going out to the field to gather the stuff I need and stock up on other things at the same time. No pressure, no dire consequences, just me making the best stuff I can because I want to.

I think I can get that on Vita to add to my list of FFT and Tactics Ogre for my imminent Japan trip.
I figured I should maybe grab SOME none tactics game in case I started to burn out.
There are not many jurps that are both well regarded AND something I haven't played so my options are limited as I am anti-replay.

Still rerolling trying to get Waver, can only do it at home though because wifi
I haven't seen a Waver or Vlad at all yet. Pretty bad luck so far, since I've seen the others a few times each. I might just settles for a Jeanne account with a couple 5* cards(not kaleidescope) when i get too bored of the rerolling.

Also keep in mind that some CE are fantastic rolls as well (2030,kaleidoscope,etc.)
