Multi-Region XBox One Question

So, my wife accidentally bought a $25 CAD card online and redeemed it on our XBox Live account (we're in US). I talked to Support and they said there's nothing they can do.

It appears that one possible solution is to switch the XB1 console's region to Canada, buy a game or DLC or what-not, and then switch it back. One issue is that we might accidentally buy something that's not available in the US (US & Canada are nearly identical stores, I think, but it's still possible that it might be a different version of the same content). A bigger concern would be if we try to switch back and get some kind of "You can only do this 3 times a year" message, which I've read online is possible.

Anyone have recent first- or second-hand experience with this situation? Any advice?

US and Canada are both part of the North American region. Games wise they should be 100% identical. I'm not sure if you can switch the xbox region to canada tho (since it's really the account that matters), but if so, and it's on the same live account, it should work without any issues.

I'm really shocked they can't just convert it to the current USD exchange rate on your account. You may want to post something to the live twitter account, they tend to be really active and responsive in working with people who contact them via that method.
