i found a legendary bow that never ran out of ammo and this slow moving orb thing that would just chew mobs up and got through the high peak castle.

the boss absolutely dumpstered me, only got it to about half before i died.

feel like i should have unlocked another movement ability at some point. i've found the statues and the things that go red when i ground pound but no idea how to make them do their thing.

If I'm remembering correctly, your next movement ability is found in the ossuary.
:Edit: or wait, if you don't have the statues active, just noticed, sewers.

the toxic sewers? that's the other way out of the first level isn't it?

i thought i'd gone through there but maybe i just died trying. i usually do the promenade because it seems easier.

I guess I'm grinding normal mode to get my 4th flask and Max gold carryover before continuing on with hard mode. Reduced flask refills is right enough, not getting one before the last boss seems like the game telling me not to proceed without max flasks.

That's why you should not visit Prison Depths!

Unless you want to unlock something from them, then go ahead, and stop visiting once you have it.

i think prison depths is mostly bad just because it throws off my timed doors and only results in one scroll and maybe one elite. rather just go straight to the ossuary from the promenade

Why does this game run like shit on the switch?

  • NogginNoggin Registered User regular
Had my second try on Concierge tonight and first kill, then even got up the clock tower a bit before dying!

I actually had some synergy for once between a firebomb and a "100% bonus while burning" sword... but the real hero of the run was Frost Blast, holy crap. It's so good and so satisfying.

I spend more than an hour becoming an stoppable killing machine only to be cheesed by the hand of the king summoning a grenadian elite

That boss is probably the least fun I have out of a other wise pretty enjoyable game

The thing that disappoints me with the release version is that after fighting HotK
there is no new final boss, no new final level, no ending. Just "whoops, here we go again!" excuse plot to justify playing in new runs. I really hope that dlc will add something new at the end...

I only have the vine rune, should I not be going to the toxic sewers yet? It feels like I shouldn't be going down there yet, because these scorpion fucks can two-shot me...

You should, I got my second upgrade in the toxic sewers.

If you have a grenade or throwable weapon like the fire thing you can throw it ahead of you to trigger the burrowed enemies.

  • MorranMorran Registered User regular
Also, the scorpions do hit hard, but they are easily stunned, and have quite low health. You should be able to maul them as they pop up from the ground.

If you can't fit hit them, you can dodge their ranged attack by simply ducking.

Just fired this up last night for the first time after full release, quite a bit of changes which was nice. Also, first time ever being in the High Castle or whatever it's called. Was going smoothly until I went into one of the mini-boss rooms and faced one of the skeleton swordsmen that usually are in the Ossuary. Got hit once and juggled against the wall until death, didn't even allow me a frame to recover from the initial hit.

Yea the elite versions of those skeleton sword guys suuuuuck. My plan for all elites and also all enemies is to have enough dps to kill them instantly, but those guys have that dodge that makes my first volley of grenades miss sometimes and then they proceed to do bad things.

You should go to any area you can get to with your current runes.

The final boss just isn't fun at all. I can get to it pretty regularly now but it has so much health there's rarely anything I can do.

He's mostly immune to crowd control stuff, so don't bring ice or traps that aren't dps. Try to get items with damage reduction on them, and stack as much synergy as you can on your attacks. My best runs have been with double fire grenades and weapons with +100% damage to burning enemies.

  • AistanAistan Tiny Bat Registered User regular
The one time I beat him was I think with a legendary torch and two turrets. I've been unable to replicate that success, can't even get him past half now.

  • RamiRami Registered User regular
Absolutely destroyed the first two bosses with this build. Like, sub 20 seconds didn't take a single hit kind of destroyed.
    0ACFAFA045A834112F7AAE1E75379FCA84C88CA4

And then I died almost immediately in the High Castle because that is one hell of a difficulty spike and 3 giant enemies all spammed multiple attacks at once and it just insta-killed me basically.

  • CogCog What'd you expect? Registered User regular
It always feels like there's a transition of mob types or bosses that exists specifically to invalidate whatever build I happen to be using.

Well, there are basically two paths... one takes you to the consergie boss the other to convectivitus. once you get the spider rune, you can take the longest path (Prisoner quarters, Promenade OR toxic sewers) > ramparts, which then will let you pick which boss to fight. hopefully by the time you clear out the ramparts, you have your loadout set and can apply that to which boss your best prepared to fight.

I'm looking at a progression map and just realized i have yet to go to the graveyard. probbaly cause ive only fought conjectivitus like twice and never after i got the spider rune.
    well, something to do tonight.

Ok, so I finished the last boss. What do i do now?
I have trouble with the floaty one-eyed alternative first boss in the old sewers. Should i just keep practicing beating him? Any tips on how to defeat him? Should I grind more cells in the levels I feel more comfortable in (normal path)?

Also, can the "detach head" skill be used to find secrets, or is it just for defeating enemies?

Can you move around with the detached head? I haven't found that skill yet, but I've come across secret areas that seem to only have tiny mouse-sized entry points

If you spit out the head, you can move the head until it latches onto a target then your back in control of the body. your body is vulnerable while you are just a head rolling around however.

I’ve finally found my groove with this game. I much prefer the fire and forgot playstyle of turrets, grenades and DoT weapons (e.g. firebrands) than standing up close and mashing melee.

IMO the perks about random weapons should be unlocked from the start. 195 cells just to get a bit of variety at the start.

I've only started playing. Been alive for two hours. Got the vine rune. Beat what I assume is the first boss.

Am destroying everything with a legendary knife that makes everything bleed to death, a super powered hammer that throws bombs, and traps and a turret in my tool slots.

I've found a bunch of upgrades. They only offer around 10% health now.

When I do die, it's going to be heartbreaking.

I like Quick Bows as I can hold down shoot. I wish they'd add auto-fire/attack to all weapons as a quality of life improvement.

I unlocked the Explosive Crossbow and boy howdy is that a great weapon. It's a crossbow that crits any mob the bolt hits then explodes for aoe damage. The run I unlocked it I made it to the end boss. My next run I had a legendary EC drop from the Time Keeper, so I did my first full clear of the High Castle AND I got the Hand of the King down to sub-40% for the first time. Although with the massive amount of area damage the HotK does, I'm not sure how to beat him.

I picked this up for my Switch earlier today. It is really fun but hard. I can’t get past the second level. I get pretty far but then usually get taken out by those warping dual sword guys. I even took out two elites in my last run, but ended up losing 29 cells. I just want an ability to save those or cash them in before I die because I only get about 5 from the first level and leveling up my items will take forever that way. Other than that I’ve been having a blast. Wolf traps and turrets for life.

You have no idea how inadequate I feel to have played this game for 65 hours and still not beaten the Clock Tower boss, especially after seeing lots of people here talk about beating the final boss. :( Oh well, one day I'm sure I'll do it.

The easy way to beat both the Concierge and the Time Keeper is to use turrets (Double-Cross-O'Matic, Sinew Slicer, etc) and focus on dodging their mechanics. Learning their mechanics in this way will let you kill them on other builds.
