Over at our our forums we were pleasantly surprised when MysteryDev posted this thread regarding the 'real' System Shock 2 soundtrack. How real? Well, according to MysteryDev's words, 'real as in ripped from a CD that Eric Brosius burned'.

A few more details regarding this soundtrack:

* These are the real arrangements created by Eric himself, authored as full soundtrack songs and burned as an album. It's not a fan interpretation or anything else short of the real songs from the real composer.
* This was personally crafted by Eric Brosius from the original audio, meaning that unlike the 22khz audio files from the shipping game this release is CD quality.
* The audio quality is much higher than what's out there; this was ripped from the original CD and encoded at 320 q0 mp3

Basically, this is not only the best quality version of the soundtrack, it's the version of the soundtrack that Eric Brosius himself created. It's not a fan compilation; this is the real deal.

The full soundtrack can be downloaded here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SOO1EQJO

Top of the page, next to the MegaUpload logo, there's a captcha. Took me a while to find it, too.

Released a while back by MysteryDev in a similar way, the full "official" Thief: Deadly Shadows soundtrack is also up at http://thief-thecircle.com/media/music/. Not to be confused with the rips by Nightfall.

I'm just waiting for MysteryDev to release an officially mixed soundtrack for Thief: Gold / Thief 2: The Metal Age. The in-game music is very good, although the actual quality of the audio files is very poor, so fan-made mixes can only go so far.

So when are they going to re-release System Shock 2? I sold my copy and now I regret it so much - is there an anniversary collection or something coming out? eBay copies go for $30-$40 and that's a bit high.

A rerelease would be spectacular, especially if it included patches to run it on more modern machines.

As in, I can't get the game to work on XP for me.

As in, I have a burning desire to play this game but no way to play it.

    I did.

I spent five hours trying to get it to work.

On one attempt I had the game, but no sound.

On the other attempt, I had sound, but the cutscenes wouldn't work, so I couldn't advance to the beginning of the game.

Actually, in either attempt, the cutscenes didn't work, but for some reason, the cutscenes were bypassed in the no sound version.

My only hope is for a more recent patch, but it doesn't matter now, I don't own the game anymore.

as far as i'm aware, there haven't been any announced plans for a release, but with System Shock 3 supposedly in the works, and EA actually apparently putting some effort into their games of late (seriously.. they're turning a corner), i wouldn't give up hope. I have a copy, however, so i can be smug :)

Oh, I had the same problem mate, just rename the cutscene folder and it won't try to access them, no cutscenes, but you can play.

Lotta good it does me now that I don't own the game.

Does anyone know where I can pick this up, apart from eBay? I generally don't like to pir--erm, borrow PC games from my friend the Internet unless there's no other option.

I found SShock2 at a local used music store for a dollar. A DOLLAR. In perfect condition with the case and everything. And this was only a month and a half ago.

That day was the best day of my life.

Why haven't more scifi RPGs been released? Vampire: Bloodlines, KOTOR, and Deus Ex were great but I was always kinda expecting more imitators over the years.
