I haven't listened to any of her other stuff, but Emotion sounds like it came from an alternate timeline where the Sega Genesis became the baseline for pop music and it's very cool

Kiss had some good stuff. Obviously there was Call Me Maybe (which is fantastic and I will brook no dissent), but there were some other real good ones too.

I honestly really hope she does a lot of growing up and becomes a much better person, and that her parasite family don't completely fuck up her life for her.

I find it kind of strange how much people talk about Emotion compared to any of CRJ's other stuff
Like, I don't fully understand why that was the album that became the object of obsession
Kiss was really good, and Call Me Maybe was a killer track!
kiss wasn't bad! i remember kiss being way more four-on-the-floor, dancier electronica sort of pop, bit of a drier production. maybe more EDM-trends-derived than emotion? I'm basing this on listening to Turn Me Up right now, which I dug. people still go nuts for "the 80s" and emotion certainly trucked in that

Please enjoy some white boy reggae about how they love their lives because they landed their dream job and anyone else who is unhappy with they life should just abandon whatever they are doing and try something else

The songs are great, but eventually you start to realize CRJ maybe isn't the strongest singer in pop. Especially when Sia's demo for "Making the Most of the Night" leaks.
This song is also supporting a broken econonomic system and telling the suppressed that all they have to do to make their lives better is stop being lazy

"rude" wrapped way past being bad into being a transcendently enjoyable and stupid song
I heard that Vacation song last night while I was stuck in a fucking office complex filled with dead ends and gated exits I couldn't get through so I was already mad and then that song came on and I could have killed a man

it's the jar jar of pop
Hard disagree, fuck that song
it also was having its radio heyday during a weekend we rented a cabin with friends to celebrate our wedding. the cabin had a killer soundsystem installed, but no aux capabilities, so I kept making everyone listen to the radio through it and we all got rude stockholm syndrome. just doing the worst dancing and singing "rude" all night. it was a great time!
Asks a dad for her daughters hand, which is already... don't do that
gets turned down
says FINE ILL DO IT ANYWAY OLD MAN
Then asks again
holy shit
So I definitely had to ask about asking my wife to marry me. Like she told me I had to. If I didn't it would have made us visiting her family difficult untill her dad dies. Like near impossible. I consented that I would ask her parents (especially since she had an heirloom engagement ring I needed to get from her mother), and then engineered it thus that I could ask her mom first instead of her dad and she passed the question along to the dad (under the guise that it would be difficult to find a private moment in which I could ask the dad).
It was fuckin dumb, and abhorrent to my personal beliefs, but I still had to do it so as not strain my wife's familial relationships to the point of breaking.

This totally sucks, for sure, but is not the situation presented in the song, as far as I could tell
I don't know if it was really an "ask permission" type thing, but my brother in law still gave my dad a heads up before he asked my sister to marry him. He and my sister were already together for like 14 years, so my dad had no issue with them getting married
According to my dad, my brother in law didn't need to ask because "they've been together for 14 years and are adults", but old traditions are generally silly and die hard, so he did anyway.

I don't want to speak for sleep but I think they were just sharing an anecdote, not saying "i too have lived through the plot of "rude""
Also, the only thing Max Landis did that I've seen is Wrestling Isn't Wrestling, and that was good, and everything else I've had 0 to negative interest in after hearing about him on Twitter.

My "favorite" part is how there's exactly one line about their actual relationship and the the rest is just about the feud with the dad.

I "begrudgingly" listened to E*MO*TION (begrudgingly because "I don't like pop but I like this" bothers me) yesterday and like 30 seconds into the album I was like "yeah this is my shit" and listened to it 3 times in a row

If you're just used to her from Emotion it's a bit of a different sound, but I still really dig it.
Buthat's what you get when you raise your children as an accessory/a thing to make money off of.
She's a product of neglect and bad parenting and I honestly feel sorry for her. She's only 14.
Shes fucked because her parents are treating her like a meal ticket and her life is probably ruined
