I've no idea what you're banging on about. You seemed to imply you needed to save up to buy replacement tires due to wear in GT. You don't. Tire wear in GT is only modelled in a single race, it resets each race so, say, if you buy racing slicks they're as good in the fifth race as they were in the first, you don't need to re-buy replacement racing slicks

Not to mention you didn't have to have a new set of tires for each time you pitted. And if you never pitted, well...yeah.

24 Hours of Nurburgring OHMYGOD. Sorry, I'm having flashbacks...Le Mans on the old AND new tracks HELPME OHGOD.

what i was banging on about is the fact that yeah there maybe hundreds of cars, but winning enough money to unlock a decent fraction of that list takes waaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooo loooooooooong.

the tire quip was just saying that everything costs alot in the game, and money is not easily (as far as time tables goes) won.

one thing that annoys me about Forza (even though i do like it), is the reflections. I noticed it in both 1, and the demo of 2, how the reflections on the car seem to stutter. Like when you cross the start-finish line, the stuff out over the track seems to flicker across the surface of the car, rather than move smoothly with the rest of the frames.

Sorry to keep bringing this up. Here is my point:

In NFS3 you could basically go anywhere you wanted to in the track, so each track was really open-ended and you could roam around with friends finding crazy jumps to do. Very similar to Test Drive 3 (so..freaking...awesome). Not only that, but pursuit mode on those open-ended tracks is what made it fun. Also, If you got into a crash and got spinned around in the air a bit, you could keep driving as long as you landed in four wheels (again, a lot of fun to be had, unlike burnout, in which the tracks are "on rails" and when you crash the game goes into a cutscen, kind of)). Is there anything like this in the current generation of consoles?

Are GT's version of a tutorial. They aren't nearly as bad as people here make them out to be.

If you already knew what you were doing in GT4, then it's probably because you already played GT3, and you can transfer licenses and up to 1 million credits (enough to buy almost any car you want). From there it took maybe 20 minutes to open up a 2 race circuit that gets you 250,000 credits every single time you beat it, which you can actually manage to do with a starter car that's been minimally modified.

I could start a new game of GT4 and have a million credits and all my licenses inside of an hour. And it's not like I'm really all that great at it either. After that I never have to worry about licenses again. So I don't see what the big hassle is.

Personally I always liked the cost of cars in GT because I thought it added to the challenge. But even with their "high" cost I have easily over 75 cars in my garage. And that's after selling ones I didn't like.

I think the artificial limitation of having to choose a region is dumb and it really pisses me off, the physics engine is almost over-finnicky and feels to me like an exaggeration on reality, things look and feel a little too 'plasticy' to me, I don't get the feeling that the way the car interacts with the track is consistent and it feels like there's some rubberbanding going on in the opponent AI - I've read the developers deny this, but, if the AI doesn't push as hard if I'm not in front and backs off then that's rubberbanding by any other name.

I know I'm being picky, but I just don;t enjoy the driving experience in Forza, Forza 2 seems to have tweaked things in the wrong direction for me.

having to choose a region doesnt mean you cant buy cars outside of that region. the region merely gives you some savings on "local" cars and parts.

how is that an artificial limitation?

    forza.

the gt series feels like a grindfest, comparitively.

and also, in the demo thread someone mentioned how in gt the cars dipped forward when braking, and how that didnt happen in forza 2. it does. ive tried every single car, and theres a noticeable dip when you hit the brakes.

That was me .... and yes I know they do dip forward, but it's much more noticeable in GT4. More noticeable than GT3, in fact. It's something they exaggerated in order to make you feel the braking more, and I dig it.

The camera in car seems to almost double the body roll ... so if the camera's tilted 15 degrees in one direction, then the car's probably tilted about 7 degrees in the same direction. I cited it as one of those things that I had to get used to to play GT4 that just seems normal now.

I mentioned this too in the demo thread. I didn't say Forza doesn't dip, but like mausmalone said, it's more pronounced in GT and feels better as a result. Enthusia goes even further and includes a shadowbox around the screen to show you where the weight of the car is. I wouldn't say Enthusia is a better game than either Forza or GT, but it's definitely an interesting idea.

I have a hard time saying which I prefer—there's things I like and don't like about both. Currently GT4 edges out Forza because of the number of real life tracks. The immense car list is nice too. But the one subtractor from GT4' s "over 700 cars" isn't every iteration of the Nissan Skyline in existence, it's the lack of Ferrari. It's like buying someone a dozen doughnuts and eating the couple with sprinkles before giving them the rest. They're happy for free doughnuts, but damn, no sprinkles. . .

Figure this might be the best place to ask this...

I have an xbox 360 and have played the forza demo. While it is cool, I'm looking towards a more "arcadey" experience, but I tried Burnout 3 on the xbox and it's TOO arcadey...so I'm looking for more of a balance.

The most fun I've ever had with a driving game was in Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit for the PC, mostly because of the excellent multiplayer (pursuit mode with spikes ftw) and a great balance between a good driving sim without being too serious. Plus, the tracks were a lot of fun, with lots of alternate paths and great surreal images. Last I heard the need for speed series was now doing street racing type of things, with story and general pimpery, so that's a big no.

So, my dear PA community, what am I looking for? preferably for the 360.

    Definitely PGR3.

    http://download.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_pgr3_vr_gt.mov / http://download.gametrailers.com/gt_vault/t_pgr3_vr_gt.wmv

Crap load of fun, way better handling "feeling" than TDU, and still the most beautiful game on the 360.

TDU is a great game too, but they're no match in terms of "arcadey" style really. Where TDU shines is it's landscape, and car collection -- the entire game takes place on one of the hawaii islands. Like, the entire island, no borders, accurately recreated with GPS. And you just drive around the island, looking for races. It's pretty damn neat. The car collection wins because they just keep putting them up. Seriously, every few weeks there's new cars on the XBL marketplace.

Test Drive Unlimited pretty much does almost all of that.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=12925

Other than that.. Fraggle, although he was joking, was actually right, in my opinion. Crackdown actually does do all of that. The only issue with crackdown is that it's two players only.

It is true, those are actual liveries done in the game livery editor. The Japanese got the game released a few days ago, and they've been pumping out liveries and putting them on the Auction House like CRAZY.

The editor supports something like 2000 layers on your car, and provides pages and pages of basic geometric shapes and more complex designs pre-built in. Its a simple process of resizing, shape, skewing the various shapes to make those designs, you just need to be artistically inclined to do it.

I'm not, but a very talented friend of mine painted up my livery. Its a badass sunset silhouette that came out exactly as I wanted. It took him, oh, 45 minutes to do? Now that he has mastered the tools, we're going to make something more complex in the coming week, mostly likely a Dr. Doom mobile.

I'll get a picture of my car online and try and post it shortly.

The car is painted with a combination paint that changes color depending on how you look at the car, so it sort of transitions from a bronzed sunset to a darker nighttime depending on your view, etc and blended with some gradients.

Uploading to the Forza site from in game sorta compresses the images into a not so high quality jpeg, so believe me when I say the game looks WAY better on screen than these images suggest.
