Again comparing gauges to each other: Samurai gets Kenki on every weaponskill after level 62, and Dark Knight gets to boost their gauge with one of two 40-second cooldowns that can fill the meter almost on their own.

If Ninki is meant to be a major part of a Ninja's damage now, it might be better for it to have an easier time of gaining it.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I think mug is one of the worst skills in the game, even with the trait. I'd much rather see the skill gone entirely and the ninki gauge rolled into something like ninjutsu.

At least now they've introduced something that explains it. He's on magical katana steroids.

So for the returning players campaign, is that unlimited play until July 20th, or is it "X Days/Hours after you log in the first time"?

As a tank all the rigged fights felt off. I'd taken hits like that and recovered on multiple occasions over the course of the fight, so it felt very arbitrary to just automatically lose at some point.

There are RPGs where I love those sort of gimmick fights but this isn't one of them.

There are characters that would have made convincing defeats like Nidhogg or the Ascians but Zenos being the first to beat the WOL in a duel just doesn't sit right with me. It doesn't feel earned or believable.

The sword being introduced could go a long way towards explaining it being the source of his powers though so we'll see where they go with that.

In many ways, this is an expansion that would have been more thematically appropriate to come before Heavensward. Sure, the stakes are important but they are not on the level as the stakes we dealt with in HW and the opposition is not the same either.

I'm pretty sure that although the red sword he gets is unique and powerful and likely has a back story, it's clearly not the source of his power as in the first fight he's using a normal samurai blade and still beats you easily.

What would be great is if someone just stole the fucker's golf bag before a fight to see what he'd be like with just his fists and the absurdly large suit of armor he wears.

I must say, I love the reference to FFVI that a certain major character in Stormblood creates.
    Namely, Lord Hien.

I would have expected a reference to Cyan, from FFVI, as the heir to Doma. But I don't think I ever would've expected them to use Cyan's name for a character who died in the backstory to this expansion, and for us to rather get to know a character who is a reference to Cyan's son. I like them being able to turn that sort of reference on its head, and I like seeing the story dynamic for those two characters get flipped in such a manner.

Hien's father is named after Cyan. The late lord Kaien (pronounced "Cayenne").

One cutscene reveals that Hien's childhood name is Shun, and his mother was Mina. Those are the Japanese-version names of Cyan's son and wife.

I think so? I did them all on Summoner and I think I was like level 53 or so by the time I got to Ishgard, so if you spread them across all your jobs you might be able to keep them all at 50 until you unlock the HW ones.

Maybe get some guildmates to help you with the MSQ-required dungeons by running them unsynched so you wouldn't get too much XP.

Also be careful with your Challenge Log since it can give you 5-15% of a level for some challenges.

Turns out there's a lot more leeway than I thought. Every quest gives tiny XP and the only big chunks of leveling progress come from the few 4-man dungeons.

    hu7LgD1.jpg

But it seems there's a bit of a tone shift between "Epic Endgame Movielength Cutscenes!" and "Okay I'm just gonna grind XP on these three jobs for a while."

I actually checked up on this a bit since I tried to log in and that didn't work, and it's only rewards for returning players. You still need an active/paying account to access anything. The only way to 'step around' that (maybe?) is to have a friend invite you to the Callback Campaign which grants you 7 days of playtime after the initial log-in. Both people get Chocobo feathers and the returnee also gets a stack of Aetheryte Tickets.

I think with both events combined that's a pretty sweet deal for people wanting to get back in (and also maybe change servers since the fee is waived depending on the server).

Can someone check my math on this crafting sequence? I'm fairly sure this is 461 CP, ending on 15 durability.
    Initial Prep
    Comfort Zone
    Inner Quiet
    Steady II
    Name
    Brand * 4
    Careful III
    Manip II

    Steady II
    Prudent Touch * 5
    Steady II
    Basic Touch * 2
    Great Strides
    Byregot's Blessing
    Careful III

Wondering if firing Piece By Piece a couple times works out better than Name Brand at this point too, since it's still under Steady II... but to get 3 is 45 CP versus the 39 for Name-Brand there. But the spare dura lets me move two prudents to basics to save 6 CP so it's a wash?

Edit: 449 CP is achievable without Name-Brand by using Piece by Piece, and I can hit that with food easily.

Hard to say to be honest. Crafting macros are tailored to the target recipe given a certain stat base. Whether or not PbP is more effective, or if you should be using IG2'd Name/Brands or a combination of the two is largely a matter of experimentation for now. None of the major crafting simulators have been updated with SB's recipes and level difference modifiers so it'll be hard to work out the effects of stats and various methods without blowing up crafts in the name of science (which is what I had to do when I developed my l60 3* macro).

    Edit:
    Correction. There's a forked update:

    Meh, well then. For SCIENCE!

It's enough that I can HQ 70* recipes with food 100% of the time now. And that's before I HQ'd more of my gear. As soon as I get other crafts to 70 the rotation will work fine on those too anyways.

Picked up SB a bit ago and have been sort of slowly grinding my way up in potd. Finally hit 60 this morning, was feeling pretty pleased with myself when I picked up my shiny kinna sword and some centurio gear from hunts. Made my way over to Foundation to fill in the gear gaps with vendor gear and...apparently the vendor gear is all 255?

As someone who played XI for the first time in a long time just recently, I'd say it's worth dropping a sub on for a month or so and toying around with the story, abusing Trusts as far as possible.

Since I imagine they'll be turning off the instancing for Stormblood areas at some point, there are a few things that are easier to do right now since we have triple the chance of them spawning (and also still more people interested in doing them due to recent expansion launch).

Naturally there are all the A-Rank and S-Rank hunts (along with the achievements for killing each of them at least once), but there are also some notable FATES to be on the lookout for.

The big two are of course "Foxy Lady" (in Yanxia) and "A Horse Outside" (in the Lochs). A Horse Outside will probably be farmed for quite a while, but you only need to get a gold rating on Foxy Lady once in order to afford all the rewards, so interest in it will probably drop off as more people obtain them (unless they add more). Foxy Lady also has some prerequisites that have to be completed before it will even spawn, detailed in spoiler.
Two FATE NPCs can spawn on your map, named Ginko and Kinko. Talking to them triggers FATEs. Ginko triggers "More to Offer" and Kinko triggers "Freedom Flies." Completing both of these will trigger the "Outfoxed" FATE if it's not on cooldown (seems to have a 2 hour cooldown) which can also drop one of the Fox currency if you get a gold rating.

After completing Outfoxed, there will be some NPC dialogue, and if she says something like "Come find me" you can fly around and look for her human form to trigger the "Foxy Lady" FATE (which, like Odin and such, will not show up on people's maps unless they get close to it). Obtaining a gold rating will net you 15 of the Fox currency. Foxy Lady seems to have a 12-24 hour cooldown before it can spawn again in that instance.

Outside of the above two Mega FATEs, each of the six Stormblood zones also has a special 30-minute boss FATE that will give you an achievement and an item for obtaining a Gold rating. A decent sized group will be needed to clear any of them.
    • The Fringes has "The Evil Seed" which drops the music roll "Beyond the Wall" (which can also be sold on the Marketboard I believe). If you got Raublocked, you may have already done this one just to kill time.
    • The Ruby Sea has "Never Say Daimyo" which drops another music roll, "Liquid Flame."
    • Yanxia has "Curiosity Killed the Catfish" which drops a glamour weapon for Dark Knights called Kidomaru.
    • The Azim Steppes has "Wham, Bam, Thank You, Mammoth" which drops a Triple Triad Card, "Mammoth."
    • The Peaks has "Rattle and Humbaba" which drops the Ala Mhigan barding for your Chocobo. The "Mouth for Water" FATE has to be completed before it will spawn.
    • The Lochs has "Tall Tale" which drops another Triple Triad card, "Phoebad."

Finally, there is a very long series of FATEs in the Azim Steppes called "The Dataqi Chronicles." There are like a dozen or so of these, with the first being "The Dataqi Chronicles: Departures" and the final one being "The Dataqi Chronicles: Dominion." If any of the FATEs are failed, the chain ends and you have to restart at the beginning. If you get a gold rating on the final one (Dominion) then you get an achievement and a large outdoor furnishing item.
