The norsca update really seems like my kinda thing.

Taking a break from Warhammer for the moment so I can get into Warhammer 2 full time when it comes out.

I'm so used to turtle tactics that I can barely even remember how to attack in this game

at least you can stack artillery against the AI. have you played as grombrindal? you can rack up 200+ kills with his irondrakes every battle against greenskins

  • TubeTube Registered User admin
My problem with the artillery heavy factions (especially Empire) is the game doesn't explain their different functions very well.

from what I can tell mortars are general purpose, not great against armored. cannons are for smaller numbered more heavily armored units and monsters, hellfire are for masses, and steam tanks are for winning. especially against choas, aim all your tanks against their great weapon units and they won't even make it then you run over stuff being invincible.

for dwarfs all 3 of their early things are anti armor so I don't use cannons much, grudge throwers have more range but organ guns can really mow down lines of charging armored infantry. flame guns I haven't used that much, irondrakes are real similar.

  • TubeTube Registered User admin
I'm calling them choas from now on.

I need to get back into my Bretonnia game. I just need to remember how to not suck as them.

I shoulda moved up the tech tree faster during my Empire game, Chaos came and went and I still haven't reached steam tanks.

Steam tanks are absolute motherfuckers in campaign.

there's two chaos invasions. one with a few chaos armies and a lot of norscans and one with ascereon. I didn't like them that much on empire because one even the smaller one happens you spend all your time fighting norscans because they constantly spawn 20 stack armies. I did manage to prevent kislev from getting wiped out by chaos

Chaos just showed up in my wood elf game, while I was already fighting (and, slowly but surely, winning) a war on two fronts.

The second they showed up, all of the Bretonnian nations that I had a military alliance with decided to confederate with the one Bretonnian nation I didn't have a military alliance with, and threw me into a huge amber deficit.

    I think I'm toast.

  • JarsJars Registered User regular
when I was playing the empire I had to fight chaos singlehandledly because my dwarf allies were busy with greenskins and my bretonnian allies decided the proper course of action after losing several cities to chaos and needing to be bailed out by me was to declare war on the fucking wood elves

  • JayKaosJayKaos Registered User regular
I dunno if I had the Bretonnians super intimidated or their AI leans very heavily towards 'war coordination' targets or what, but I was able to get them to send three full stacks through a dozen heavily corrupted provinces to help me against the big Archaeon push while the Skaelings were running amok in their home cities. Made that whole fight much easier.

I actually had a much harder time with the first chaos push, it happened to land right on my capital city while my biggest armies were off on the opposite border fighting vampires and orcs. By the time Arch showed up I had finished two new confederations and was able to meet him pretty far north with a decent sized force and allies - even if those had been wiped I'd have plenty of time to build more as he worked his way south through cities I didn't care about.

"Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne! As part of the Games Workshop sale, Total War: WARHAMMER will drop in price by 66% from 10am Pacific time Thursday 20th July until 10am Pacific time Monday 24th July, with all Total War: WARHAMMER DLC 33% off too! Click here: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/skulls/
And it looks like an Old Friend has shown up to celebrate... That's right - it's Krell! Heinrich Kemmler will be able to summon Krell in single player and multiplayer battles as a unique ability unavailable to other Vampire Count lords and heroes. Krell also comes with a unique skill chain (found in Kemmler’s skill tree) which will make him even more potent and enduring in battle as his master grows in strength during the grand campaign.
This hulking melee specialist will cut a bloody swathe through the ranks of Kemmler’s enemies, but be warned; the ruinous powers of Chaos are not easily controlled, and Heinrich must focus his necrotic powers to keep him fighting.
Krell is free downloadable content for Total War: WARHAMMER for Windows, macOS and Linux and will be added to your game with the latest Steam update!"

So the Old Friend was Krell after all

Krell is cool, but I'm a little disappointed it wasn't Boris

Empire could really use a subfaction

I'd love to play the Southern States as an empire subfaction

Give me my warring Italian city-states

  • TurambarTurambar Independent Registered User regular
You mean like Tilea, Estalia and Border Princes?

They'd have to be their own factions like Brettonia and not subfactions

    Same with like Kislev

Would be cool to have them playable :) but would still need an Empire subfaction

Boris is at least unlockable as a lord if you beat the beastmen campaign. Unless you didn't mean Todbringer

Aren't their armies pulled from the Empire army list? They seem to be the same as the Empire to me.

  • TubeTube Registered User admin
Kislev would be fun just because they start in a prime position to get shithoused by choas.

    Only in multi though, right?

Empire doesn't have a second faction for the campaign, unless I missed something recently

I wish the humans or orks in the base game had been swapped with the elves. But as it stands baseline Total Warhammer ain't got no ladies in it (as far as I know) and $32 is a little rich for my blood when I still have untouched stuff from the summer sale. (And also Shogun from a while ago, which I've barely played.)

Vampire Counts have some lady legendary lords, and Bretonnia (which is a free DLC) has the Fae Enchantress.

Baseline has Isabella and the vampire and Empire heroes, and the Wood Elves wardancers as antagonists (DLC needed to play as them). There's not a lot though. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Warhammer as a franchise is great for female characters? The dark elves seem to have some but they're the classic "stripper costume" types.

Oh wait, the high elves have female line infantry I think, judging by their trailer.

Yeah, I know better than to expect a whole lot from Games Workshop, but I need them to throw me at least a little bit of a bone for me to invest above fire-sale amounts of money, y'know? One of the old Dawn of War 1 expansions had Sisters of Battle I think, such as they are.

This is one of my biggest issues with the franchise as a whole. I would say it stems from it's 80s roots, but there's really no reason there is not better representation of women now. I assume a lot of it is how vocal the neckbeards are, like I think the Dark Elf army roster topic on the official forums had to be locked because of shitty people bitching about there being lady Dreadlords.

CA is doing somewhat better by elevating Isabella to a full on legendary lord, but have missed some opportunities. Personally I'm hoping Norsca or Chaos will get Valkia eventually. While it's a long shot and she's mostly a forgotten character, Elspeth for Empire would be neat. She's an old forge world model, an amethyst wizard on a dragon.

Isabella is pretty cool in the base game since she's encouraged to take an entourage of lady vampires with her to kick some ass.

there doesn't need to be female only squads. they could integrate ones that already exist

  • TubeTube Registered User admin
I think CA could do a lot of good by just adding female infantry to all the units. Don't make a big deal about it, just throw them in there as a troop variation.

  • TubeTube Registered User admin
I mean canon to the setting seems to be that a trained woman can be just as lethal as a man, right? That just isn't reflected in the current units and models. Throw a few in there. It won't be the most outlandish part of the setting.

Does Warhammer lore do the thing where female dwarfs still have beards?

    no

there just aren't any dwarf women in Total Warhammer

  • JarsJars Registered User regular
yeah it's easy to make canon. in mordheim there is a faction of warrior women called the sisters of sigmar. they have no ranged units, only hitting people with hammers units

When a dwarfs beard grows thick and burly enough it drops off to gestate into a new dwarf

don't greenskins just kind of pop into existence like fungus

  • ShortyShorty touching the meat Intergalactic Cool CourtRegistered User regular
in 40k, orks are definitely a partly fungal lifeform, and they only have the one sex

I don't know if that's also true of Warhammer fantasy
