'Host gets all control' over missions is how Dungeon Defenders did it and it was a pretty raw deal. Like, I'm glad that this game appears to have no actual build limit, just a bonus for staying under a certain number, but even so, I fully expect a toxic attitude to take hold among certain players where if you build ANYTHING they will kick you - often because you're messing with 'their build.'
In the end, the key question in tower defense multiplayer co-op is always 'how do we allow every player to enjoy the aspect of building but also offer an actual challenge?' Because the latter pushes towards organization, which usually disincentivizes the former, especially in PUGs.
I've always thought that some aspect of parallel play would be the solution to this, with each player defending an objective, but with the ability to aid others once their base is defended. Or some sort of separate game mode where areas around the objective are carved out, with each player only capable of building in their slice, requiring cooperation and melding with another player's slice in order to make a comprehensive defense.

With the limited edition pre order on PSN, do the two extra standard edition copies count as founder copies and they will be able to play on the 21st or will they need to wait until the 25th?

they can start on the 21st if the wording is correct: "Build friendships and a lethal squad with a digital Standard Edition Founder's Pack to give to your friend."
So i was watching lots of let's plays yesterday and one thing i'm irked on is when your base gets enough xp you can expand it. when you expand it, your shield goes down and you get swarmed by husks. they go after your main base and three amplifiers you also have at your base and it really doesn't look like you could EVER do that solo, you need a full group to be able to take on the huge amount of husks that show up. that pretty much sucks if it's true. they were right at the beginning of the game still and I would suppose you could level up your traps and build enough to be able to do it but at first glance it didn't look like it was possible.

From what I've read, the game does scale to how many people are in your party. Also, you can find and deploy "defender" npcs that you can set to protect spots you choose in the base.

The video I watched was one guy doing it alone; he didn't have the defender build spots, true, but otherwise there seemed to be just as many husks when he did it alone as when he did it with four people. But hopefully that's just not true.

Are there recommended group setups already? My group was thinking of doing a Outlander, a Solider, and two Constructors but we are not sure if two Constructors will hurt us.

All I've read is that they all end up playing pretty similar. I'm probably going ninja since I'll play alone a lot, they do a lot of damage and they can double jump. Otherwise I might go Constructor because the guys are sexy as hell and playing alone I'll rely a lot on traps and building quickly.
but that double jump sounds nice.
but group setup probably really doesn't matter at all; play what you like.
The one review I read that mentioned it at all said ninjas usually just end up standing up high with everyone and shooting anyway.
It might be more of an early game thing, but some of the videos I have seen, the ninja dashes through groups of enemies, killing more than a single airstrike.

That's just an ability you get when using a sword. any class can do it.

although maybe ninjas do more damage with swords?
Ahh interesting. This ninja was definitely up front using the sword, so they could have been doing more damage with it. The double jump got them out of a lot of tough situations though, it might be the class I start with.

Everyone can do a like a heavy thrust forward, but only ninjas can do that long blade dash that's on a 7 second cooldown. Not all ninjas have it either, I've seen some streams where the ninja had a roundhouse kick which was a heavy damage AoE knockback. I've also seen a dev stream where the blade dash left a damaging energy field in its wake.
Based on the fact that soldiers can spec into an armor debuff on anything they shoot as well as other gun related perks, I'm guessing that ninjas can spec into buffs with melee. I mean, they can stand back and snipe, but aside from getting caught out by a Taker, I don't see why you wouldn't want to sneak into the back lines and take out lobbers, pitchers and other high value targets in the back lines.
I wish there was more info on the Outlander. I've seen that they can see loot through walls, they have a heavy punch and can drop sentry bears and loot pinatas. That's about it though.
Elaborate defense Rube Goldberg porn is a thing. I'm so happy there's bounce pads/wall shovers. Nothing makes me quite so hard as an enemy going through a complex maze of switchbacked defenses, only to get launched back to the starting point at the end by a bounce pad.

re - preload
Hey guys, we want to give a heads up relating to your questions about preloading Fortnite. On PC/Mac we're making every effort to make this happen and will update you as soon as we know. For console, even if you are able to preload right now, it's possible you could end up having to download again closer to launch as we continue to update with the latest builds. We want to make sure you guys know this since it's can be a pain to have to download twice. We'll let you know when the final updates hit console as soon as we have those details. Thanks!
Ok but when will the servers be up?
We're shooting for 10:00 AM Eastern.
Devs are good with the comms.....

oh that's cool to hear! i could swear i saw a soldier class do the long dash forward tho. maybe it was just a different ninja.
outlanders can activate some weird spheres as well and I think get bonus materials.
Something worth mentioning if you plan to do Early Access: there's a thing on their website called Search for Survivors that gets you some bonuses and it's almost over.
Basically, you pick the streamer you like the most as a "commander" and you get a bunch of guns and a banner that has that streamer's symbol on it. I initially picked a streamer I liked but then quickly switched to a banner I liked. I know a lot of people are just picking based on banner (team beard seems particularly popular). Personally I went with the cat.
Anyway, if you've pre-ordered but haven't done this, now's the time.
Edit: You can do this even if you haven't pre-ordered. In particular, if you have a friend who is giving you one of their bonus copies, you can do this even though they can't give you the code until launch.
Edit 2: It also gets you set up with your Epic account and therefore reserves your username.

Yes. Everyone who plans on picking the game up at some point should go ahead and do this.
I'm kind of disappointed that almost none of the commanders are women. I think one is but it's hard to tell from the drawing. I mean dang they're like ALL white guys.
Not necessarily disappointment in Epic, mind you, just that there were no others to ask from the Let's Play community. Heck, even my sub list is all white guys now that I look at it.
My summary, colored by my opinions, on the hot takes I've seen:
Similar to other light games, this will be hilarious in a group of friends and could keep you occupied for a couple months off and on. Played solo or competitively, it'll probably fall flat on its face pretty quickly.
Solo, on the other hand, looks like a blast assuming that the amount of husks in a mission is balanced for that (and I've seen Epic say it is).
I imagine my relationship to it will be akin to Destiny. I play obsessively for a month or two, then forget about it for a couple months the play it obsessively again.

buuuuut like the first PA game (I can't even remember the company anymore) and a few others, if it isn't on steam, I probably won't always have it.
oh yeah, EverQuest (which does still exist, but just not my original account)
long story short, aside from Steam, I've been sorely disappointed in every online platform I've ever used.
I guess BNet was ok but I haven't used it in years and have no clue if I still have access to all my games
Also, can we buy specific heroes a la carte or will we be at the mercy of the RNG gods via loot boxes?

I'm 70% sure you can, that's what V-Bucks are used for. You can get them from reward chests or buy them for real moneys.
NDA lifts on the 20th, so likely we can hear answers on some of these questions from anyone that may be currently be in the alpha.

It's settings you can change in the menu but only if you're in your personal base. in world missions everyone has full control.
