Oh boy it's possible we don't make a bowl again this year

Sure is disappointing to have all that hype about Tom Herman get absolutely crushed

Scott Frost went 6-7 last year at UCF. We're 6-0 this year.

    Gotta give it time.

When are people going to stop with the We Want Bama chants

    NOBODY should want Bama

I'd give a pass to clemson fans. Nobody else.

    It's OK to want Bama.

It's a noble goal to aspire to.

He went 13-1 at Houston his first year.

I think there were a lot of high expectations cause of that. And the damn Maryland game. Aside from Maryland our losses have been to top 10 teams. Just sucks that well probably lose Orlando this season and he's been the best part of the team this year

I love how Spencer Hall writes about undefeated Bama:
The real Alabama death machine watcher, though, knows the ultimate sign of an Alabama blowout. The game got so out of hand that Ronnie Clark, the sixth-string running back, got to carry the ball twice. Clark was a four-star tight end recruit who could start almost anywhere else in college football. His appearance lets an opponent know that what is still a game for you just became a scrimmage for them.

At Alabama, he’s the vultureback. If you see him, you’ll know that only your bones are left.

The American is a much softer league than the Big XII, and he had the benefit of inheriting a team that was already pretty good.

As opposed to Texas, where y'all have a higher degree of competition, and you're still trying to build a system based on whatever Mack and Strong left behind.

There was an EDSBS post years ago, I think, that basically posited that Saban will coach forever.

Yes!! I was hoping to get a perfect week at least once this season so I'm glad I can scratch that off the list. Amusingly, I barely got to watch any games yesterday (just the end of the IU/MSU game with the boneheaded TD run-in that Sparty made instead of sliding with the first down then burning the remaining clock) as I was out visiting with friends all day, so I didn't even realize until I noticed this post

I think saban will coach until he doesn’t like doing it anymore, I think three years is pretty locked in and could be five to seven. Could obviously surprise me but I think he retires at Alabama in that time frame. He’ll break most Alabama records in that time even if he doesn’t win another Championship.

Longer than that and he’s getting pretty old doing grueling work when he could be on a lake, and changing programs is doing the whole thing over again when he already has basically a lock on the conference until further notice. Going pro means dealing with the bullshit that made him bad and frustrated enough to go to college in the first place.

I think the stupidest and best situation for Alabama is nick saban retiring in five years and immediately hiring dabo to replace him.

I'm getting killed by a bunch of morons for pointing out that basically having two consecutive dud recruiting classes (we have four starters from what should be our senior and redshirt senior classes, and only one of them is an outstanding player in Mo Hurst) is harmful to your football team. Which is what happened up here in Hoke's last two years.

It says a lot about Texas right now that our defense is basically entirely juniors and seniors and our offense is mostly freshman and some sophomore WRs.

That's probably a good demonstration for both sides of the ball.

I'm just feeling down cause I don't want Todd Orlando to leave. That dude is a fucking defensive mastermind.

If the three of the four playoff teams are Bama/Georgia running the table, Big 10 winner running the table and Miami running the table, then the Nation Champ will almost certainly have a transcontinental strip of land.

The only team they've played with land was okie state. Everyone else lost before they played TCU.

I think it should change to where if you beat a team they're now a vassal State and then if they beat a team and get land it goes to you. That'd be interesting to see.

    So, Oghulk.

Maybe chill the fuck out about your first season?

Also, Urban Meyer went 24-2 in his first two (rebuilding) seasons at OSU, but those were some of the worst years in B1G history- those teams, especially his first, probably only win 7 against this year's schedule.

Something to ponder in regards to what Harbaugh has done as well.

Similarly, Houston wasn't exactly playing world-beaters in Herman's years there. FSU does not count.

It would quickly consolidate to the unbeatens and you could end up with logic loops. Texas beats ISU, ISU beats OU, OU beats Texas, bluescreen of death.

And OSU was coming off one down year under weird sanction stuff and saw no real fall off in recruiting. They're head and shoulders above the rest of their conference along with basically anyone save Bama in terms of their pull/clout with recruits.

Texas is a blue blood program for sure, but they've had a longer stretch of lower quality play to come back from. Also every good school under the sun tries to get Texas recruits and there are several other major Texas schools that are savagely cutthroat in recruiting battles on top of it.

Nobody is coming in that can fix everything overnight in that situation.

RE: Tom Herman - He was our offensive coordinator here and I never saw what the big deal was. The offense was occasionally productive but wildly inconsistent. I guess that was a talent thing. We didn't have the general talent level required to execute his schemes effectively. I suppose the stint at Ohio State kinda proves that, but I feel like a lot of schemes can succeed with their talent pool.

Still, it's just about having "talent", but the right talent for what you want to do. ISU's main running back used to be Mike Warren, and he was really good under Paul Rhodes with a zone blocking scheme. After Rhodes was fired, Warren suffered pretty badly under the new offense.

Texas will be fine. Fuck, we're ranked in year 2 of our new coach after winning 3 whole games last year. Wait til he can actually play his guys and they're not freshmen.

Yes but even though their road back was shorter, that OSU team those 2 years didn't have to play any teams close to as good as OU/OkSU/USC/TCU (or PSU/OhSU in the case of UM). Urban's team in year 2 got blown out by a Sparty team that easily won the B1G but is 4th at best in the B12 or B1G East this year...

And then this happened vs Clemson...jqaqnaavxhdu.png

Point is it's too early to worry about Herman (and in fact going to OT vs USC/OU/OSU, including holding OSU to so few points, is really encouraging), and Harbaugh had UM way over-achieving the last two years and is just in a rebuild year going against the most talented PSU team in a generation. Harbaugh is a scary good coach, and Herman may be as well.
