I know amongst mature and not-teenager adults, linkin park has been looked upon unkindly.
But I personally don't really know anyone for whom linkin park and Chester Bennington was not a huge part of their life for years.

    This is painful.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't love linkin park when I was in high school, even if I am not a fan now

if you ever think about hurting yourself, talk to somebody first folks

    people are here to listen

It's a shame that anyone would take their own life, and my heart goes out to his family, friends, bandmates, and fans.

He was a genuinely fantastic singer. I never liked Linkin Park's music much, but his voice was always the best part of it.

I could never quite get behind their work myself but he was a hell of a vocalist, agreed.

I can't imagine how much what happened with Chris Cornell affected him. They were good friends, and he sang at Cornell's funeral

Today would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday too

I actually really liked their first album. I know it was overplayed, but there's some great stuff on there.

Dang, I had Hybrid Theory memorized front-to-back when I was a fifteen.

Poor guy. I feel for him, his family, and his bandmates. What a damn shame.

Yeah the bitter jaded adult in me is fighting teenage me from 20 years ago over this one. It's just a shite way to go, period. If Fred Durst did the same, it would be the same sadness.

And yeah, I still listen to Linkin Park occasionally.

I wasn't a fan of their later work but i got a lot of screaming and frustration out singing along to hybrid theory in my angsty high school years.

    This sucks.

their first two albums along with Reanimation are some of my favorite albums ever

    Reanimation was fucking crazy cool

I remember the Aaron Lewis version of Crawling being really cool.

I actually enjoyed A Thousand Suns. I feel like I'm the only one . It was different, but I'm OK with the type of band Linkin Park was growing up a little.

    This sucks.

I know Hybrid Theory gets joked about a lot but I actually liked the album quite a bit. Even if I fell off on their later stuff.

Even went to go see them perform once. It was high energy and everybody was having a good time.

    This is really sad.

    depression fucking sucks

If you (like me and I'm sure a number of other people posting here) have ever had to grapple with it yourself, basically all of these guys finally not managing to outlast it after all since Robin Williams couldn't has been demoralizing as hell.

One of the radio stations I listen to here in the Vegas valley is already on top of a tribute to Bennington. I liked LP's music, not in a mega huge way, but still. This was at the top of what the DJ started to play.

I was wondering why the local radio was playing a bunch of LP stuff - they generally don't - and then caught that, damn.

Thousand Suns in particular's been a decreasingly-guilty pleasure of mine for awhile. I think that's my background material for the next 45 minutes.

Didn't he do some time as Stone Temple Pilots' frontman? How did that work out?

More than that, it's legitimately scary.

Speaking of Hybrid Theory apparently Linkin Park was hip enough to officially upload the album, open access, to YouTube.

goddamn. hybrid theory, reanimation and meteora defined my teenage years. I never stopped listening to them, even if their impact on me faded a little. I even went back just a few months ago to give their later albums a re-listen. surprised how much I dug them. a thousand suns has some great stuff.

also, as someone still pretty early on in dealing with my mental health stuff, it is hard to see it happen to people like this.

Man, now I'm thinking of the LP songs I listened to in my battle with depression. They're songs I typically skip now.

    RIP Chester.

My roommate is taking this one hard; I've enjoyed various songs of LP for the better part of fifteen years, not a superfan but still a fan.

I can't even imagine what the rest of the guys in the band must be going through right now.

Best track from Hybrid Theory, although now it's especially depressing.

I was never a huge Linkin Park fan, but I don't think anyone exists my age that doesn't have a few songs from Hybrid Theory burned into their heads for eternity during high school.

Weird. We had In The End on earlier which is the first time I'd heard it in years.

I think Linkin Park is pretty dang cheesy now, but I got a lot of use out of them when I was younger. And this is tragic regardless of whether the music was good or not anyway. 41 is no age.

One of my brothers is pretty shook by this. Linkin Park was a huge part of his teenage years, and he also deals with depression himself, so this is hitting him hard.

This was the first Linkin Park I was exposed to, I absolutely loved it and it still holds a place in my heart

Man, my very first concert was the Chicago stop on the Hybrid Theory tour, and stuff from that album has never left the rotation on my iPod. Even though I had grown away from their more recent stuff, this still hits like a brick.

One of the few major bands I ever saw in person was Linkin Park during one of their Pro Rev tours.
