CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Reuters) - White nationalists clashed with counter-demonstrators in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday ahead of a rally to protest the planned removal of a Confederate general's statue that critics say glorifies the era of slavery.
Fighting broke out in the city's downtown before noon when hundreds of people, some wearing white nationalist symbols and carrying Confederate battle flags, were confronted by a nearly equal number of counter-protesters. The clashes began the previous evening, resulting in at least one arrest.
Soon after the melee erupted, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city, home of the University of Virginia's flagship campus. The gathering was declared an "unlawful assembly," allowing police to disperse the protesters.

Today was supposed to be the event for Confederate losers to be sad that their monuments are going away. All of what's going on now started last night however when a group of Nazis gathered up torches, put on their Nazi pins (literally) and surrounded a group of students at university protesting. I thought it would've just been an intimidation thing, except the Nazi scum broke out into violence.

Matt Pearce is a correspondent for the LA Times, pointing out that white supremacist Richard Spencer (who was one of the ring-leaders of this fiasco) is interpreting Trump's bunk-ass tweets as a condemnation of antifa and not him and his Nazi allies.

Some of them are explicitly white nationalists in addition to being white supremacists. Saw an interview with one of the leaders saying that whites "need their own nation (possibly country, I forget - ebum)."
Also worth noting Richard Spencer is celebrating Trump's tweets because they fail to specify who he's denouncing so these assholes are free to interpret as denouncing the people protesting fascism and white supremacy.

I'm confused here because the state of emergency thing was from the previous protest correct? And even if it's not they don't just lift that after six hours of dispersing crowds the night before.
Also they should have still been present at the antifa protest regardless.

At the very least the scene with the car needs to get locked down immediately. Edit:oh, the car appears to have backed away afterwards. Ugh.
I don't know if that's illegal in the US but here that's illegal as fucking hell, like putting all gun laws and open carry aside you can't just dress up like soldiers and stand around in National Guard cosplay with real fucking guns at a protest, that should be illegal as all fuck in any rational country.

Because they are heavily armed militiamen. Even riot cops are not usually armed to deal with that, and if they are armed the only real response is lethal violence back. Not that I don't want them arrested asap, but cops are not trained to deal with what are effectively military units in our streets.

It's legal here up until you actually have a fake badge or anything signifying service.
I could wear a full on set of BDUs and a blackhawk vest, loaded with a pistol and AR rounds, have the AR slung, but as long as I don't have bars, pins, medals, etc it's legal.

Where are they? Two videos now and I haven't seen one officer.
The video is zoomed in too far to tell if it was an auto accident gone very bad or one car intentionally pushing another into the crowd.
Current Riot Cops in any city big enough to have a riot or swat department have military grade firepower brought back from the war.

The ACLU of Virginia is stating that witnesses said a rock was thrown at the silver Mustang by counter-protesters and it then turned around and ran into the counter-protesters.

Around 12:30 I saw footage of Virginia State Police in full riot gear pushing some nazis out of the park grounds. Not sure where they are now.
