Lucky kids... Some middle school has put a DDR machine in their gym. I'd like one in the break room at my work so I can use it during my break or something. Sitting in the office sucks a lot.

Excerpt
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Children don’t often yell in excitement when they are let into class, but as the doors opened to the upper level of the gym at South Middle School here one recent Monday, the assembled students let out a chorus of shrieks.

In they rushed, past the Ping-Pong table, past the balance beams and the wrestling mats stacked unused. They sprinted past the ghosts of Gym Class Past toward two TV sets looming over square plastic mats on the floor. In less than a minute a dozen seventh graders were dancing in furiously kinetic union to the thumps of a techno song called “Speed Over Beethoven.”

Based on current plans, more than 1,500 schools are expected to be using the game by the end of the decade.

or you could shut it up.

That's a console setup, but an arcade machine. Not even close to the same experience.

Still cool, but not quite up there with a cabinet in school(though I heard some are actually doing that).

It looks like they're using metal pads though, which is impressive: those don't come cheap.

They probably figure a durable metal pad is a better investment than one they'll need to replace every other day. Kids and all that.

At my school, the University of Kansas, you can get elective credits for taking a DDR class that meets in arcade at the student union.
