According to Nintendo, Mario is no longer a plumber. As spotted by Kotaku, the character’s profile on Nintendo’s official Japanese-language website states that Mario used to be a plumber:

I like green, don't like red much at all, he has a better mustache, better name, the taller/slimmer look is more appealing, sometimes he has cool green fire, he's got that unique jump, he's a secret character in stuff like Galaxy
People like underdogs
He has way more personality, and a really endearing one at that

Playing as him in Super Mario Galaxy, one of the best games of all time and certainly the most outright fun one in my eyes, turns the entire experience into an unplayable mess

Luigi Mario is a crazy stalker who "believes in himself" so much that he jumps into an open elavator shaft believing god will save him
@Grey Ghost He's not like, super deep, but wheras mario is the hero who just goes and fixes things without any thought, Luigi is a neurotic mess
He's terrified of monsters and cowers at them constantly, has a severely deep seated inferiority complex, and is extremely jealous of his brother
But when push comes to shove he's still a hero who gets things done, and thats super endearing
Edit: He's basically one of the only characters I remember even as a kid liking because he seems to suffer from inferiority complex just like I do, constantly
this is only true if you ignore like, 60% of the games with those characters in them
