I think I'm going to be moving out of my 1 bed/1 bath apartment in the next couple months and will be looking for a room for rent. Mostly to cut down on what I'm paying a month for housing and reroute that towards some debt that I have, plus I figured it wouldn't hurt to have somebody to interact with while I'm not at work.
I'm looking for some things to keep in mind when meeting these people, questions to ask, etc. I'm a pretty quiet, clean person (i.e. picks up after myself, no dishes in the sink, etc. etc.) although I am somewhat obsessive compulsive. Not horribly so, but if there's something messy or out of place and it bothers me, it'll irk me until I can fix it. I looked at a couple rooms for rent before but didn't like them because of my arachnophobia and the other tenant occasionally smoked weed. I'm not trying to pass judgment on anyone, but it's something that I just can't have around me for personal reasons.
I've lived with roommates in the past, but they were either my brother or close personal friends who I'd known for years and already knew their personality. I just don't want to end up with a psycho freak slob or some ass that has no respect for other people and their property.
I've been using Craigslist mostly, but I'll take a look at the other links.
I'm mostly looking for recommendations on things to ask and look out for once I've found a potential residence and go to meet the people. Possibly things that wouldn't stand out as obvious but you wished/did ask see that were deal makers/breakers. (i.e. looking over the basement and finding a large patch of mold in the ceiling where the bathtub is above).
Stuff that I already have on my list to ask...
Hobbies/interests, work schedule, chore list, pets, smoking, drug use, allergies, overnight guest policy, parking, quiet time (i.e. 10PM-7AM), food sharing, yard work if appropriate, and utilities.

I used to use a site called easyroommate.com to search for roommates.
You can also look in the local paper's classified ads.
